AIBU?

AIBU to leave my cat outside with a sign around his neck saying ‘free to a good home’?

I am having a truly shit week - two close family members going through really awful experiences, some bad news for me personally, and my mum being hugely supportive but clearly struggling with being there for everyone.

So my cat, of course, decides that 10pm tonight is the perfect time to learn how to open the cupboard where we keep the glasses, climb inside, and send literally every single item of glass inside crashing to the ground, where they make a sound which would wake the hounds of hell and smash extravagantly on the floor. This sends my other (highly nervous) cat into a paroxysm of terror, as a result of which she uses my face and incredibly sore pregnancy boobs as a springboard to launch herself upstairs.

I’m now beadily eyeing the homewares vandal as he cleans his whiskers on the mantelpiece looking like he’s never done a thing wrong in his life, and wondering if he wouldn’t make quite a nice pair of slippers...?

No feline-related advice here, but sorry for the shit week, OP. Hope it gets better. Flowers

First mistake, calling him “my cat”.

This is his revenge. YOU are HIS human. When it suits him.

I think you probably just needed new glassware and he was helping.

Give him low quality kibble for a week. Rebuff his friendly advances. Tickle him in places that annoy him.
There are many, many ways to get revenge on your moggy.

YABU to not be apologising to His Majesty for not having more things for him to smash.

Yes, this is no doubt an elaborate and carefully executed revenge for my failure to recognise his proper place as lord and master of the household...

Thank you for the kind words everyone x

Careful. There’s another thread where poster has just adopted a cat and there are several of us on the verge of doing the same. Your post has brought the reality back into the decision

@31133004Taff on another day I’ll be wholeheartedly encouraging you to get one. Today specifically, I’d be happy to offload mine Grin

Piece of sellotape on the tail for a minute or two will make you feel better. Although you should prepare for further acts of revenge afterwards Grin

Cats are laws into themselves. Ours has claimed the bathroom for himself and we get attacked when we dare enter 😂😂

I’ve just stayed up for an extra hour as my nearly blind cat took it upon himself to wander outside. (Doesn’t normally). I spent an hour calling and whistling for him to no avail. I’d just despondently settled on the settee for a period of time unknown when he saunters in like nothings wrong. I feel your pain.

Bloody hell. That is one intimidating cat. Not sure you'd have many takers.

Swap you? Mine started the day shitting on the stairs and by lunchtime was eating the wires to the Virgin hub. AngryWine

I think the photo makes him look more of a bruiser than he is. He’s actually not a particularly large or muscly cat! Although large enough to clearly have difficulties turning round in enclosed spaces..:
