To only eat junk food (pregnancy)

Because it's all I seem to be able to stomach without feeling incredibly ill?

I am only early on in first tri (7wks). All I seem to be able to eat is shit. I can't stomach a full meal but I'm craving things like crisps.

Today I am ashamed to say I have eaten a whole MULTIPACK of crisps to myself. Like 8 bags of crisps. The saltier the better too.

I've also been craving tinned spaghetti like there is no tomorrow.

Did anyone else feel all they could keep down was junk food?

My daughter was nourished solely by ginger nuts for the first 12 weeks grin

That was me! The first 12 weeks all I wanted was beige food but after that things settled down but my cravings were ice lollies, milk and sweets/chocolate - this could explain why my little girl weighed 9lbs!

Sometimes it isn't a choice. It's worth at least attempting to eat something healthy, but if it won't stay down then there's not much else to be done. I went through a phase where I tried eating vegetables but they just got heaved back up again immediately.

I felt so disgusted but also sort of impressed 😂 the salt and vinegar crisps were like absolute heaven. My tongue was stinging from all the salt but I could have eaten more if I hadn't ran out of crisps haha.

Yes to ice lollies too. Specifically the rocket ones from Tesco 🤤

Yep, it's beige food. You'd think it would make you more sick but the thought of eating a full piece of fruit makes me gag. I've been trying to have it in the form of smoothies which I can just about manage.

Don’t know if it’s BU, but it’s certainly what I did grin

Then have a smoothie. I was lucky that I could manage fruit, so could've been worse.

I mostly ate soft white bread and hot cross buns for the first trimester, washed down with Volvic lemon & lime water... just eat what you can until the sickness goes.

I just feel a bit guilty. The rest of my pregnancies I've mainly felt too ill to eat. But this one I'm just ravenous all the time but only for shit!

You just eat what you can. I was I guess fairly lucky with baby 1 in that all I could face was fruit n fibre cereal with milk, at least there's a vague idea that there's healthy stuff there.

Baby 2 was anything vinegary. Mostly salt and vinegar crisps (which I had never liked before) and pickled beetroot.

It will pass. Don't worry too much about it.

All i could stomach was beige food as well.

Could you try porridge? I had that for breakfast most mornings. Also jacket potatoes in an attempt to pretend it was healthy 😂
I ate s lot of KFC in the first few weeks as that stayed down. Same with my first pregnancy and both children seem to have turned out alright!

FreeFromDinoMeat Wed 17-Jun-20 19:21:24

Oh pickled beetroot. I hadn't thought of that 🤤

I think I ate more McDonald's and crisps in my two pregnancies than I have in the other 33 years of my life combined. Both times it was worst during the first trimester, and the next phase was wanting loads of salads, fruit and veg to even things out! Definitely not BU, eat what you can, and what your body wants, it won't last.

FreeFromDinoMeat Wed 17-Jun-20 19:23:24

I queued up to buy a tin of spaghetti from the shop the other day. I was literally ready to fight someone if they'd questioned whether or not it was essential ha.

Thanks. Feeling a lot less guilty about my crisp binge today then smile

I had hyperemis for 7m with DS2, for 7m I ate no fruit, very little veg, no bread, basically a very restricted diet...DS2 is nearly 5m and bigger than DS1 was at his age, rolling over, and nearly commando crawling. He also smiles and laughs nearly all day smile

I lived on pringles and chocolate mini rolls throughout my pregnancy. Along with anything tangy like Worcester sauce or mint sauce.

Just take your vitamins 🤷

Nishky Wed 17-Jun-20 19:27:07

I was advised by a midwife to drink slimfast shakes when I couldn’t face proper food as at least it had vitamins in.

Although this was 17 years ago so may no longer be acceptable advice!

At least pickled beetroot would be some vegetables, if you can eat it! 🙂

raspberryk Wed 17-Jun-20 19:27:25

The only thing I could reliably keep down for months was San Pellegrino lemonade. On and off beige carbs. I'd got sick of ginger nuts in a previous pregnancy and I can't even stomach them 7 years later.

I think I may need to try this tomorrow. I do like the thought of it. I love beetroot anyway in normal times.

The only thing I don't like about it is turning my wee pink. It will likely give me a heart attack when I forget I've eaten a load of beetroot.

I was the same in first trimester- lived mostly on potato waffles, chips and white bread. Couldn't even face water (unless it was sparking). In second trimester I craved peanut butter and yogurt (but I eat loads of both now anyway so not sure it was an actual craving) oh and cereal too.
Remember to take your vitamins and it'll all be fine

DontTouchTheMoustache Wed 17-Jun-20 19:34:13

Oh lord dont feel guilty, the first 12 weeks are no mans land you have to do what you can to survive!
It might be worth taking some multivitamins to make up for the lack of nutrients elsewhere?

octobersky19 Wed 17-Jun-20 19:50:27

My first pregnancy was amazing, no sickness and I ate like a goddess.

I'm 7 weeks with #2 and I have no appetite in the morning then come evening I want to eat jars and jars of Nutella. (Obviously I'm not)

So OP I can relate lol

You can make a nourishing smoothie with plain yoghurt, fresh fruit
(banana, strawberries, raspberries) a dash of orange juice and spoonful of honey.

Can you snack on nuts instead of crisps?
