Archibald to make a comeback?!

the more I hear the name the more I get to like it.

Others would be;
Seth or Stanley

Well every other child was called Archie a few years ago, so it’s not a giant leap. Seth and Stanley have been back for a while, but not to the same extent.

I like the name Stanley, have done for years, ever since someone round my way got a lovely staffie who she named Stanley.

Not sure about it for a child though.

Quite a few of those called Archie day to day are likely to have Archibald on the BC.

DH wanted Archimedes
I said no.
But most names come back into fashion.
BIL and SIL top name for their new boys is currently Paul.
You never know when, but at some point it'll be popular.

Don’t like old man names for kids but that’s just me! So many of them around here. And flower names for girls... Daisy. Poppy etc

Archibald made a come back a couple of years ago. Well, certainly where i live in SE London. There are quite a few around. So, YANBU as plenty agree with you! Must admit it's not to my taste though.

Perhaps there have been unkind posts on the name Archie in the past, but SumAndSubstance wasn't one of them. I took it to mean that given the popularity of the name Archie, it isn't unrealistic that the name Archibald will also see a surge in popularity.

Old men were babies once! I do understand what you are getting at but names like Emily and George would have been considered old fashioned in the not so distant past.

Been a midwife over 26 years never seen an Archibald plenty of Archie's though. Older names are still popular for boys and girls. We welcomed Mabel into the world last week.

You do.realise that old men were once babies @macaronilemonpony,?They were not 85 at birth😂,there are lots of names around that are very popular these days that would have been considered very old fashioned when I was growing up .

I always envisage a fat cat when I think of Archibald.

I also not sure anyone will get past the Meghan Markle connection with the name now either, and the outcry that caused

Yeah, probably about due for a comeback after 2000 years! Names tend to come back into fashion once a new generation of parents no longer associate them with old people they have known. So popular Victorian names came back in the 70s and early 20th century names are coming back into fashion now. Other than in Scotland, Archibald does not fit into this category. I’m sure many parents don’t even associate Archie with it.

I was an early 70,s baby @CecilyP There were lots of Davids,Johns Marks,Andrews etc for Boys and Sarah,sRachels,Rebecca's Anne,s etc for girls were these names popular in Victorian times?

I agree with other posters, if your DS is called Archibald then it will have to be an accepted part of life that lots of other people will refer to him as Archie.

And yes Archibald / Archie is already very popular around where I live. I don't know if that makes it a good or bad thing in your eyes.

If he's doing something he shouldn't, he gets "Archibald!" and he stops and freezes (normally with a stolen sock in his mouth)!

Every child who has the full name of Archibald is going to end up being called Archie.

I know 2 kids called Archer which I prefer to Archibald ( that was actually my grandfathers name)
