AIBU?

To be annoyed by present giving

So found a text from my mum this morning saying thank you for one of the hug in your pocket gifts signed from my 2 children, one a toddler and the other a newborn. I didn't send the gift and checked with all my close family who didn't send it either. Now I've discovered it was from an old colleague of my mum's who has never met my children or myself and I am just feeling pretty annoyed somebody would think to send something like that, personalise it and sign it from my children. Aibu?

This is weird. Why would a colleague send a gift to your mum and say it was from your kids? How does your colleague know your mum, or know where she lives to send the gift?

What was the gift?

This would really bother me, it's creepy

I think it sounds very thoughtful but realise I'm the minority...

I totally appreciate that it's a lovely idea and thoughtful gift but to then have signed it from my children i just find the strange part of it.
@LakeTittyHaHa It was one of those small wooden token hug in your pocket things to keep

Maybe the lady didn’t really understand the token, thought your mum would like it and he hug she would want would be from your family?

She probably thought your mum would love to think about you when she held the token, but maybe she didn’t realise she shouldn’t have bought such a personal present and put your names on it.

It is a bit odd, but I think just a clumsy well meant gift.

Very very odd, I would be weirded out if someone sent my mum this- surely there’s a million other things they could have bought her?

Ah I love those hug in a pocket. I wouldn't send one from other people though, that's just weird. Has your mother been complaining she's not seeing enough of you and kiddies (understandable) and colleague thought she would try cheer her up maybe?

I'm sure her heart was in the right place and she was only trying to make your mum smile but I do agree with it being a bit odd/creepy! I wouldn't confront her or anything but totally understand your feelings on it!

It sounds like the person might have misunderstood, maybe they thought it was supposed to represent who you would like to hug, or something...

Do they know your family well?

That is very weird. Are they from the UK? Maybe a thing in another country is all I can come up with.

That's most likely it. Poor woman, she'd probably be mortified if she knew how wrong she'd got it!

Im not so sure, on the card the token is attached to it is signed 'love from -- and -- x'
Even with the shortened names we use for them
I'm just a bit hurt as it put me in the position of having to admit it wasn't from me and I feel like it's a bit of an invasion from a stranger, even though I've been sending things from my toddler to them and keeping in touch

This seems the most logical explanation

I’d certainly find that a bit weird, and rather an overstepping of my boundaries.

I assume that the person meant well, but it would still irritate me.

Someone was trying to do a nice thing. Don’t over think it.

This still ties in with what Tokyo suggested, op. Don't be so quick to ascribe it to malice, seriously.

How did you find out it was from an old colleague of your Mum's, anyway? How did the confusion even arise, if it was obvious from the off who had sent it?!

I sent one on a tea towel to my mother from dd and ds. When she rang to thnk them I had to run down the stairs to tell ds that he had sent his nana a tea towel with a massive hug from himself and his sister as I had forgotten to mention it to him when I ordered it with dd. Yours doesn't make sense as it wasn't from the kids but maybe the friend got mixed up and didn't think it through well enough and just thought it would be a nice gift for her and didn't think that it was pretty meaningless if it didn't actually come from the kids and they had no idea it was sent. At least I got to ds before my mother did.
