AIBU?

Should I leave my job?

I’ve been ‘meaning’ to leave for ages. It’s a part time job, I don’t need the money massively (it’s a few minimum wage hours, and I’m otherwise self-employed). DH is in a secure employed role.

Whereas other jobs I’ve usually come away with a few good pals, here I find them clique-y (could say slightly bitchy too) and have never really socialised with them. So not great in that sense.

However, I find the routine and the break from wfh beneficial – it offers a bit of balance and engagement outside the house. It also offers a bit of security, should freelance work dry up (I’m very fortunate that it hasn’t so far, but I’m aware it might be far more difficult to find another pt employed role with the current situation).

I know I’m lucky to have work at all, although this job has felt a bit negative at times (someone posted recently asking if your workmates are ‘your people’ and I had to say a definite no in this case). It seems like an opportune moment to move on, however I wonder if I’ll regret it when it’s too late and I’m going mad in the house. AIBU?

I wouldn’t leave a job for the next 12 months until I could clearly see how the economy is doing and the impact that might have on my finances.

The economy is very likely to crash due to covid and then the end of the brexit transition period. Especially if there is no deal.

I'm saving as much money as possible currently, I can't see any job as being 100% secure.

Use it as a nudge to hunt a new job rather than just resign!

No I wouldn’t.
I know a lot of people who have lost jobs over the past few weeks, in some cases both adults in the same household.
I wouldn’t take it for granted if I was you.

Thanks for the answers! Yes, good point about the economy. There is a lot of uncertainty at the mo.

And agree that it’s better to move from one thing to the next than have a ‘no mans land’ gap in between.

I suppose the reason it’s even a question is that unpleasant behaviour from colleagues has had a bit of a negative impact at times, and I’m weighing up how that measures against the sensible reasons to stay.
