FAKE NEWS! YEAR 10 & 12 ARE NOT BACK AT SCHOOL

areallthenamesusedup · 15/06/2020 13:47

I am listening to the news today and there is much talk about the year 10's and years 12's being back at school. No they are not. My Yr 12 son has 3 hours scheduled between now and the end of term.....not 3 hours/day, not 3 hours/week.....3 hours till mid July!

Is it just our school?

That sounds really low. My y12 is in 3 days a week. A day for each subject.

My dd is only going to have 2 days between now and the end of term. I thought the same op.

It’s the same in wales. They say all kids going back to school for the month of July but each year group is only going back for a total of 4 ‘check-in’ days.

Not just your school.

At our state secondary, all teaching for Y10 and Y12 between now and the end of term will be "live" lessons on MS Teams.

No face to face at all

Whereas at the private secondary which DH works at, Y10 and Y12 are getting one full week each between now and the end of term.

The news reports are very misleading.

My year 10 is back for half day on Mondays for maths and English only. Other options lessons are being live screened during the week.

It’s a national scandal. I can’t believe the way our children are being sacrificed.

Our schools y10/12 are only going in if they've been deemed to be struggling.
Not great as they'll be those that are academically doing well but emotionally and socially struggling. Not all children will seek help.

My year 12 isn't back until September. Can have a 'meeting' with tutors if any concerns but otherwise all learning continues online.
The local council said no to schools opening here yet (NW) so my year 10 isn't back either. And unlikely to be IMO.

My year 10 dd has just returned from a session at school. 4 hours a week until the end of term. 2 forms each day and each form split into bubbles. Different range of subjects each week, English and Maths today which was the first day.

Same for my year 10. 2h next week and possible another time before the end of term.

Going back to school not quite

There's no such thing as a national consistency regarding school. It's beyond ridiculous now.

Yep that's it.

My dd teaches them and that's all they are doing. (Apart from setting work etc all day at hone)

The Y10s and Y12s are back at DS’s school today, although I think they have very limited timetables. Not sure how much teaching time they are getting though as DS is not in either year.

All the Government quotes are about lifting lock down requirements. It doesn't mean all schools and shops will open and be functioning on these dates. We haven't taken year 6 back. Each school has their own risk assessment and any decision is based on this.

My Yr12 has been offered one half day between now and the end of term. It will consist of a half hour 121 with a tutor (not a subject teacher), a group chat with a few others about how online study is going and an hours PE lesson........

It’s a shambles. But “fake news” makes me want to throw up. Let’s not channel Trump if we can help it.

My Y10 is back one day a week for 2 hours, doing 1 core subject per week. The year is split into 4 bubbles and each bubble is split into 3 sub bubbles with staggered starting times and in different areas.

Similar here. My child is in year 1 and isn't being allowed back at all.

I'm in Wales.

My Yr 12 DD is getting 1 day a week, starting in 2 weeks time.

It's shit. She is missing so much now that there is no way she can perform to the best of her ability in her A levels.

My Y10 has been given the option to come in for 1 day a week but she is doing so well at home she isnt going in. I cant praise her teachers enough they have been fantastic and her grades have actually gone up. Same for my Y8.

It's disgusting. Why are we sacrificing our children?
