Out walking

So out walking this morning, there is a tarmac path on the walk, thick grass to ether side.
Two ladies standing talking, both with dogs, one on the grass one in the middle of the path.
I’m approaching with my Pram, the lady on the path is looking at me, makes no indication of moving herself or the dog to the side.
So here’s me trying to push the Pram though this thick grass while they stand there and watch me.
Made me so mad! If she had stepped even a little bit onto the grass, I could of stayed on the path.
I’m not an arsehole, I don’t expect people to move for me just because I have a Pram, but would it not of been decent of her?
Grass and weeds all caught up in the underneath of the Pram, basically pulling the grass out of the ground as I was pushing.
I suppose I’m so mad because it seems to happen a lot here.

Did you say Excuse me?

You shouldn’t need to say excuse me. They were blocking the path. Whether or not you had a pram is completely irrelevant.

i agree with lilybet.

Something along the lines of "coming though" in a tinkerly voice should suffice, I always liked to follow up with a passive aggressive sigh. You should never be expected to take a pram off the path - I've scraped dog poo off wheels far too often.

Did you say excuse me? You shouldn’t have needed to, but I would have said it and then asked if I could have pushed my pram past before resorting to pushing my pram round them and huffing and puffing over it.

I would have just said, "Excuse me, can i just pass?"

no point being a martyr when the'res no need....

Yes this is getting right on my fucking nerves at the moment. People standing at either side of a path keeping almost 2 meters distance from each other, but then you have to walk through the middle of them and they just fucking look at you!
I had a full family the other day going at a snails pace up a hill 3 on one side of the path, 2 on the other, so you have to either walk round them, almost into the fields on either side, or walk through them. It's bloody rude!

No chance I would have struggled over the grass with a pram though OP.

Had did the human race walk anywhere before tarmac was invented? 🙄 It’s not worth getting het up that you had to walk on grass for a few metres. But if you need to push a pram past, or have a wheelchair, or some such other thing that means you need to stay on the tarmac it is really not that difficult to just say ‘could I get past, please? Even if you had to stand there a while and wait for them to move (try counting to 30 in your head and seeing how long that feels!) it would only add 30 seconds to you reaching your destination. It’s probably taken longer than that to get upset on MN about it.

YANBU, but people can be too dippy or self absorbed to realise that people need them to move sometimes, so you do need to ask them. Stop and wait if need be, with a little patient sigh.

"Can I just get past there please?" I doubt she would have refused to move

OP this is literally so annoying and happens all the time here!

I'm heavily pregnant and push my toddler along in the pram, yet for some reason people with dogs take higher priority when it comes to pavement space! I'm astounded that I have to point out that in this situation it would be much easier if they got out of my fucking way.

Sometime I can see them from a distance and I can cross the road but other times, they stay on the pavement and I'm the one who has to go over the grass verge and walk on the road with a pram! I'm due in 3 weeks, waddle pathetically slow with the pram and yet the dogs (and their owners) can't possibly move out of my way Angry

I find stuff like this happening all the time, people not moving over or just blocking entire pavement even when they see you coming or not even acknowledging you when you move over in to the long grass for them to remain on pavement or walk in the road to allow them to stay on the pavement. Find some aspects of society nowadays not so nice.

OP and everyone else who is having the same terrible problems, how hard is it to say excuse me? Try it next time instead of playing the martyr and then coming on here whinging about it.

I had a bicycle bell on my prams/pushchairs (as did my mum when i was in one) and i have found ringing that and shouting "coming through" makes people move out of the way.

I never get why people don't just speak up in situations like this (yes, i know - they have crippling anxiety or something, but in that case they have to suck it up because let's face it, so many people are complete wankers)

Jesus, that’s insufferable! Just talk like a grown up.

“Could you move off the path, please. It’s hard to push the pram on the grass. Thank-you.”

Report
Cornishclio · 15/06/2020 13:00

I would have asked them to move.

Report
BlusteryLake · 15/06/2020 13:00

Assuming this wasn't on a dual carriageway or something, just step momentarily into the road to get past? That's what I do.

Report
otterbaby · 15/06/2020 13:06

Do we not have voices anymore? A polite "excuse me!" and I'm sure she would have moved! Instead of stewing over it and letting it bother you?

Report
SpillTheTeaa · 15/06/2020 13:10

It's just common decency to move out the way if you're blocking a path. It's rude.
You should have just said excuse me but then she should have just moved like a normal person and not be so bloody ignorant.

Report
SpillTheTeaa · 15/06/2020 13:11

Why should someone step into a road with a pram because someone so ignorant is blocking a path though?

I would of said excuse me, but a little common curtesy surely means that I don’t need to?
Just wanted to have a little moan about it, as it’s not the first time it’s happened.
Cars parked, bins left out on the middle of pavements.

In a perfect world, yes they should have moved.

Unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect world, and people are often in their own little thoughtless bubbles, but not being maliciously useless.

Next time, OP, just pull into the far side of the path, stop and wait. Or use your words and say, "I'm sorry, could I quickly nip past?"

Not worth getting upset over TBH.

Open your mouth and say excuse me. That way you won't have to make such a mountain of a molehill next time.
