To think this isn't ok?

Would you find it concerning if a teacher or school governor at your child's school was sharing moderately racist memes and posts on social media? Is it appropriate for someone in either of these roles to share this stuff publicly when they are working in a school with a small number of BAME families?

Yep. Inappropriate. Maybe screen shot and forward to chair of governors?

Totally inappropriate.

Absolutely. I'd forward the screenshots to the HT and chair of governors.

And it's inappropriate regardless of whether there are BAME children in the school.

Completely inappropriate and offensive

Define moderately racist

What is inappropriate is having an online 'friendship' with a teacher (as a parent of a student or as student) or not locking down your public profile.

Define moderately racist

This. Terms like this imply on some level racism might be ok. It's either racist or it isn't, and if you have to apply the "moderately" to it, it is racist.

“Moderately” racist?
And a problem “when there are BAME” families?
Have to ask the internet if it’s inappropriate?

You need to look at yourself too @SallySunflower15

Screenshot it, send to head and chair of governors.

You have to ask?

What if it was someone who was a governor?

Of course it's inappropriate, why do you have to ask? And what does 'moderately racist' mean? Hmm

You still need to define moderately racist.

Saying that all lives matter is not even slightly racist. It is at most unhelpful. Was it worse than that?

Yes inappropriate
Could you give an example though of the meme? As I can’t get my head around anyone least of all a teacher doing this

Report
Ellisandra · 15/06/2020 12:48

Why would it bring a governor stop you from reporting it to the head, or the chair of governors? Confused

Or the head of the academy group if it is one, or the LEA... come on, why is it this hard?

Why are you writing on here/ If a teacher was sharing racist comments you contact the school and let them know with the proof.

EmperorCovidula · 15/06/2020 12:49

I don’t understand what moderate racism is.

This is why I was confused it might not be seen as racist, and I'd be kicking up a stink over nothing. Think a meme with the Union Jack flag along the lines of: if this offends you fuck off.

Please don't pile on. It made me feel uncomfortable but I appreciate it might not be seen as racist by some. But given everything that's happening in the world right now it doesn't seem very pleasant.

I think if they’re only moderately racist then it’s absolutely fine...

Is something a racist would say.

Well, that doesn’t sound racist...
Context is everything- I would be surprised if a school governor sent out a formal email with swear words...

Unpleasant language but this is not racist.

People who post stuff like that are usually racist in my experience.

That's not racist. The person who posted it probably is, but that post isn't.

The foul language was inappropriate IMO. But the quote itself isn't racist, though it would give me a very low opinion of the sender, and yes, I'd agree that they're probably racist.

Report
ATomeOfOnesOwn · 15/06/2020 13:18

It's not racist but if you find it offensive, unfriend them. You obviously don't like them and staying on their page looking for stuff you can report them for, isn't healthy for you.
