If the line is engaged , wait or call back - help, urgent

My mum was admitted to hospital this morning 4am. She is on a ward. I really need to talk to them to pass on history, get update.

The line is constantly engaged, no queue system.

If its engaged should I stay on the line or redial? I have it in my head I need to redail rather than wait as if i wait it won't register my end as free. Does that even make sense, sleep deprived and stressed.

Thanks in advance

If engaged you need to redial.
You might have something on your phone that does this for you?

Can you try the central line for the hospital and explain you can’t get through and it’s urgent?

Definitely re-dial. I hope your mum is ok Flowers

Definitely redial, I guess you've checked the website and there are no other numbers you could try?

Try changing the last digit of the phone number to either one above or below (ie 72683 try 72684 or 72682), they often have phones in sequence on the wards and if its the wrong place, they can transfer you.

Radial.

If possible phone the reception area and they can possibly put through to the ward directly.

Hope your mum is ok!

As a ward nurse, I would suggest calling back after 2pm. If there's anything urgent they needed to know they would call you.

I know it's difficult as you want to know how your mum is, the plan etc. However, they are ward rounds, medical rounds and washes in the morning plus every patients relative calling.

By calling later, there's a chance she'd be seen by ward doctor, a plan will be in place, any bloods that needed reviewing would have been reviewed etc.

Failing that, can you phone her directly.

Good luck and I hope you're mum gets better soon.

I hope she's ok op. I second trying again in the afternoon, hospitals are so busy in the morning.

My mum was in hospital lately. I got through via the switchboard. I was told afternoon was better as morning was busy. They should be able to access her medical notes as everything is now held on a database.

You definitely need to radial. If its engaged you wont automatically get put through once the line is clear. Itll be engaged til you hang up
