Tinned fruit is just the best

Have woke up with a bit of a hangover and just snarffed a tin of orange segments and am how about to scoff another tin of grapefruit segments.
No mess, no peeling, and delightfully mushy.
Much better than the real thing.

I love tinned citrus but am wary of the sugar.

Dyou reckon if I rinse it it'll be OK?

Grapefruit in particular...

No!!! The juice is the best part! I'm in bed eating in straight out of the tin...

I got some in for my vegan DD prior to lockdown and now it’s a weekly regular for the rest of us. Love it and wonder why I have never had it in prior.

DelMonte Mandarin Segments are delicious, and lovely served with low fat yoghurt. A good replacement for ice cream. I think the whole (smallish) tin only has like 70 calories or something.

I love tinned mandarins. However, I do notice that when I eat the whole tin that my throat is a bit scratchy afterwards, which doesn't happen with fresh fruit.

There's also such differences in price:

DelMonte mandarin segments: £1 per tin
Tesco own brand: £0.55 per tin
Tesco value/harvest brand: £0.35 per tin

The own brand is ok but I wouldn't recommend the value tin.

The cheap ones tend to be in syrup rather than juice so I bizarrely think of them as more of a treat!

Even better with tinned milk! Reminds me of "desert" at my Nan's.

I don't like them in syrup but it's ok in juice.

The sugar and vitamin C will be good for your hangover though op. Big glass of water then in a couple of hours eat something salty and you'll be right as rain.

Nothing bizarre about thinking of a can of syrup as a treat!

I like tinned pineapple.

My dear late Dad loved tinned fruit. Peaches, pears (he liked them ripe and they are never ready to eat bought fresh)

I use tinned pineapple in cooking and use tinned mango to make chutney. There's a great cocktail using tinned lychees and the syrup, with vodka

Tastes very fresh as well. I usually drain the juice and give the fruit a rinse.
I find tinned peaches usually do the trick when dc are constipated.

Takes me back... We used to have Tinned fruit and evaporated milk as a treat as kids. Or if we didn't have any 'evap' in, we'd have the 'cream' off of the top of the milk on it! My nan used to have gold top milk delivered. That was like having your fruit with double cream then!

I've rediscovered tinned peaches since lockdown - fantastically mushy and tasty.

I've had tinned oranges, tinned grapefruit, 3 cups of tea, a yogurt and honey on toast.
Hangover seems to have gone, I am however bouncing off the walls...

@bluefoxmug I have a tin of semolina & a tin of peach halves in the cupboard think I'll have a wee treat before my diet to shift the lockdown weight starts tomorrow!

Will save the pear halves & custard for when I give up on the diet within a week Grin

Tinned peaches and cornflakes with cold milk. With or without yoghurt.
Food of the gods.

I loved tinned mandarines as a child but had some recently and thought they were horrible. Was never very keen on other tinned fruit. Tinned pineapples are reasonably close to the real thing. I regularly have tinned grapefruit for breakfast but when I couldn’t find them at beginning of lockdown DS suggested getting a real one, so I did and they are bloody amazing!
