I have it you don’t have to participate but watching the vids is funny

It’s very like Vine, if you used to use that.

It’s a video app much loved by teenagers-used to be called Musically.

It's short videos people have added that you swipe up to scroll through. There's some rubbish but you can scroll on past to the good stuff.
Beware, you can lose a lot of time once you start watching.

So maybe I need Instagram? Is that more informative? Rather than silly. I want to be a bit less of a dinosaur.

Instagram can be terrible for mental health. Use with caution.

Instagram isn't necessarily bad for your mental health; it depends on who you follow, just like other forms of social media.

I got it so that I could keep an eye on what my dd posts. Apart from that, my feed is just full of nice pictures of vegan food and of German Shepherds. Dd's photos can stress me out, but the rest is very relaxing. 😊

Are there any cats on it? I love a good cat video 😺

I love it.

I'm in my 30s and before lockdown I laughed at people who used it.

Now I'm addicted.

I don't make videos, just watch them.

Lots of music vids (miming), comedy vids, dancing. It, I believe, was aimed at teens mainly originally but a lot of adults use it to. It is an entertaining way to waste lots of time.

Oh and yes I would get it.

My mental health is on the up. Not sure I want it challenged. Like seeing good ideas though.

I'm 48 and I'm addicted to tiktok 🙋🏼‍♀️

I made fun of DD1's addiction to it and now I'm worse. I have never posted anything but lose hours to it.

Yeah because throwing a glass of water at your unsuspecting partner so you can film their reaction is funny! Poor guy looked so annoyed at being pranked again by his wife. At this rate they will be divorced pretty soon.

Tik tok is hilarious, just keeping scrolling and liking and hiding things that you don't like. The algorithm learns fast and you'll be left with the more interesting content, and you won't see the stupid dances after that.

Towards the start of lockdown I was obsessed. If you want to lose hours download it. It was very short lived for me, I haven’t opened the app in ages.

1066vegan · 13/06/2020 20:51

I've just tried it out, scrolled through and saw dozens of unfunny dances and even unfunnier practical jokes, some of which were clearly staged. Is there anything else on there?

I lost hours to tik tok yesterday. Can't work out how l didn't see the time evaporate before me. Think I'm going to delete it.

I like tiktok it's refreshing at the moment as it's lighthearted unlike twitter and instagram. I recently rejoined Instagram and already I remember why I came off it. FULL of opinions and people telling me how to think and behave along with carefully curated images that often make me feel bad. I also remember it doesn't work for me as it's just a marketing tool now. To be visible you need to be a marketeer rather than just have good content.
Anyway yes yes you can streamline your feed - which I will do - but yeh I think I'll probably just come off it again.
I expect tiktok will go that way too so make the most of it while it's still just refreshing and funny and innovative.

It’s for narcissists, paedophiles, and a good way to become more stupid quickly.

It’s also owned by a Chinese company with a dodgy past on data security and censorship.

It’s also supposed to be 13+ and has become rife in our primary school - leading to kids posting some very dodgy videos copying what they’ve seen.

@0hio when you say you want something informative with good ideas? What do you mean. Sounds like you have Pinterest which is the best for that.

But yes instagram is good. It's just photos and some videos you can search using # - so maybe #DIYharrypottercake and anyone who has tagged their pic or video with that would come up. Of course you can post a picture of a bin and tag it with the above and it will still come up.

I use it for home inspo, so recently I searched #babygirlnursery #ikeahacknursery #greenlivingroom etc to get idea of how people decorated their nurseries etc. Could then follow the accounts I like the most.

I also watch a shocking amount of cat videos on there.

It's only bad for your mental health if you don't realise that people lie. Ie some home instagrammers/influencers have these huge expensive houses, seem not to work, and have perfect lives. And that can be hard to compare your own life to, if you don't realise that the pictures are set up and curated to look perfect. Rest of the house is probably a tip and the kids are running amok but by god does that mantle piece look attractive with the antique candles (#gifted) and popular archway mirror.

Just like magazines are bad for mental health if you don't realise ever picture is edited to an inch of its life.

If you're an adult of basic intelligence Instagram is safe and easy to use
