All their points are correct, but I'm jot allowed to agree with any of it or say so.

EasyAndy101 Sat 13-Jun-20 10:11:39

"they kill white people too"

Well that's alright then isn't it

ffs

Iloveantiques Sat 13-Jun-20 10:13:08

You're allowed to agree with whatever nonsense you like, just as I am allowed to believe that you are a racist.

Fatted Sat 13-Jun-20 10:13:57

There is a problem with an excessively miltarised police system in the United States.

But racism does also exist and is still alive and well.

PlanDeRaccordement Sat 13-Jun-20 10:38:10

They are correct in that police brutality in the US also kills white people and that there is little to no media attention.

However, the statistics do show that black people are more likely to be shot and killed by police than white people. So racism does make an already bad situation worse.

I did not know that donations to BLM ended up in the pockets of politicians. I now want to fact check what they said on that because the money should really be invested in black neighbourhoods, small businesses and things like scholarships for poor black students

Changename5000 Sat 13-Jun-20 10:52:44

Oh god yes i agree that America is totally racist, and the police are out of control.

There needs a massive reform of the police services out there, something that Obama was trying to do and that Trump has stopped. (No surprise there then)

Point proven

itsgettingweird Sat 13-Jun-20 11:05:21

I'm not sure it's a spin.

They do make some very interesting points that are thought provoking.

I asked on another thread I started in crime about the mindset of murder. Purely asking what drives someone like the policeman to kill someone they way he did GF. It was out and out cold blooded murder. He clearly felt he was right to do so because he didn't flinch when filmed. He didn't react at all. Just knelt in his neck for nearly 9 minutes.

A poster told me about Stanford prison experiment. Well worth a read. There's definitely a power construct involved that may not may not include race bias for some police.

EasyAndy101 Sat 13-Jun-20 11:07:57

Point proven

What would you like to say that you feel that you can't say?

cardibach Sat 13-Jun-20 11:13:56

Well, no, @Persiaclementine. It does the opposite of proving your point. You said you weren’t allowed to say you agree. Your are alLowed to say it (and did) so...
The same right that allows you to say you agree gives other people the right to then see that agreement as evidence of racism (or extreme lack of thought/knowledge).

Persiaclementine Sat 13-Jun-20 11:48:38

I'm not allowed to agree with anything that goes against the narrative that only black people subject to trigger happy cops because I'll classed as a racist, or a uncle Tom. which you have proven by your comment.
Which is totaly unfounded.
Where is it racist? Can you point out any racism in what they said?
Can you explain where racism lies in agreeing with it?
By agreeing to their points, it's not saying the blm cause is fake or not for good reason. Black lives do matter. Absolutely. And I shouldn't have to say that no one should.

EasyAndy101 Sat 13-Jun-20 11:56:01

But I've protested and organised extensively with regards to police brutality and no one has ever called me racist

All statistics cited around likelihood of being shot or abused by police are a clear indication of the fact that everyone accepts it happens to white people too

I mean 3 X more than none would still be none wouldn't it?

TheEmpressMatilda Sat 13-Jun-20 12:20:26

Please explain why someone having an opinion on your posts means you are “not allowed” to have them?

Are you such a spushal snowflake you demand that everyone agree with you at all times, and that anyone with a different opinion from you be censored?

The amount of posters who believe “free speech” means “everyone has to agree with me.” hmmhmm

You ever been there? Any first-hand experience?

Glowcat Sat 13-Jun-20 12:32:18

So you didn’t link their ‘BLM is a leftist lie’ clip?

Doyoumind Sat 13-Jun-20 12:42:21

What I can say is thank fuck I don't live in America and that police aren't routinely armed in the UK.

AlwaysCheddar Sat 13-Jun-20 12:45:23

Anyone talking about police brutality in Asia or Middle East? No.... how strange as it’s far worse there than USA.

RJnomore1 Sat 13-Jun-20 12:50:35

The two truths don’t cancel each other. In fact one amplifies the other.

The police in America frequently use excessive force.

America is structurally racist.

Ergo the excessive force has an additional impact on black people.

I’m not clicking on your link.

slashlover Sat 13-Jun-20 12:51:55

But But! They kill white people too!

Nobody ever said they didn't.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras Sat 13-Jun-20 12:56:06

There's clearly a huge problem in America. I dare say the prevalence of guns amongst the public informs how the police behave as well. It just raises the stakes for everyone.

But the UK isn't the US. Calls by the BLM to refund the police, abolish prisons etc is just ridiculous. Why should we support that? Why isn't anyone concerned about the black people being killed during the riots or the black people having their businesses destroyed - there are so many videos on line now where the business owners are crying and begging the looters to stop. What about their lives? Don't they matter? In a week or so when everyone has forgotten about this and the looters have had their fill and move on (which they will) who's going to be supporting these people that have lost their livelihoods? This isn't really about ending racism, this is about causing trouble and expressing pent up anger from lockdown. The people who really care about ending racism are working at it tirelessly every day, not just looting and burning things down.

slashlover Sat 13-Jun-20 12:59:51

Calls by the BLM to refund the police

Do you know what defunding the police means?

Changename5000 Sat 13-Jun-20 13:06:07

@Glowcat

No you are correct, I didn't.

I was sent this one and posted because it was interesting. It doesn't mean I disagree with BLM. Their post is stating that many others are shot, but doesn't make headlines as it doesn't fit the "media agenda" their words.

The police shouldn't be randomly shooting anyone, they need to learn a different way to deal with arresting people.

It is supposed to be innocent unless proven guilty, but it's seems it's just execution without jury.

^ This, if you are suspected of a crime, you are fair game to the police. Doesn't matter what colour your skin is.
