AIBU?

To think that this is okay to do in covid times?

DH and I have a small business - he does the occupation of the work and I do admin and logistics. I also have another job which is furloughed currently.

He needs to go and perform some critical (though not key/essential/urgent) work 3 hours from home tomorrow and Sunday.

He's asked me to go and we'll have a night away from home in an hotel.

My role is certainly not needed in the location in the weekend, but jeepers we could do with a break from the house. DC can look after themselves and dog for 36 hours.

AIBU to accompany him though I'm not performing essential role?

I didn't realise hotels were open for business.
I'd not be comfortable my DH or I going at all and staying away from home.

Can you stay in hotels at the moment? I know loads of people who work in hotels and they are all furloughed?

I dont know how I would feel staying away from home at the moment.

As long as you're not about to tell us the DC are 5 years old!

DH has been away for work for 2 weeks, he visited at the weekend and is coming home today. It was easier to just rent an apartment for the duration than pay for a hotel the nights he needed. This was in a seaside town. Lots of hotels closed but not all.

Staying in hotels was fine in flu times, AIDS times, Polio times, and cholera times, so once this lockdown madness ends and hotels are allowed to open, I'm sure they will be grateful for your business.

That sounds wonderful! I'd love a break from being at home, plus a change of scenery... YANBU, enjoy yourself!

I thought only keyworkers could stay in hotels at the moment?

I don't see the problem though.

You're business partners & this is a business trip (mostly). Just go.

Cheers.

Other people connected with this wirk are staying at a hotel nearby (major chain hotel) which states it's open for essential business travellers.

DC range from 20 to 15.

Phew. I'll go and relax about it.

Though what I'll be able to do I don't know. Walk, take out coffees and read. Monumental bliss Smile

I thought government guidance forbids anyone from staying overnight somewhere they don't live (except the new "social bubbles"). But admit its hard to keep track of all the information

People are allowed to travel and stay way for work if they are essential workers. That has always been allowed.

Finding hotels could be harder for most as many closed down.

Unless you're a keyworker Hogwarts

You might find the hotel wont let you stay though. I'd check before you go. Hotels that are allowing key workers to stay will probably be pretty strict. Not sure theyll allow people to stay just for a night away. Theyd be breaking the rules allowing you to stay

The other thing you might need to check is the food facilities. A lot of hotels around here are taking in keyworkers but its room only. The restaurant is closed.

It might not all be as simple as you think
