Notheristerone for holiday?

Has anyone used this to temporarily stop menstruation ruining holidays?

If so, how did you find it - did it cause bloating/side effects and did it work?

I wouldn't hesitate to take it for a holiday. And have done, with no ill effect.

I’ve done it twice. Both times it took about a week for my period to start, and it was very painful and heavy when it did.

I’d probably do it again though.

I've used it for holiday, no side effects, got from boots online

I took it and it did delay my period. But oh my god, when I stopped taking it to induce my period! The pain was bad and the flow was incredibly heavy. My periods were messed up for a few months afterwards. It also gave me really low mood.

I’ve not known anyone it doesn’t work for, but the side effects seem to really vary.

I used it several times as a teenager on holiday and always found it worked perfectly.

It's been a while since I used it so can't remember about side-effects/bloating etc but the fact that I kept using it for a few years tells me I can't have had any serious issues

It is good but once made me bleed really badly instead of stopped it but that's once out of many times and I do have endometriosis so my hormones may have caused that.

No side effects when taking it but the pain and bleeding afterwards is terrible. Stock up on strong painkillers and very thick pads. The Tena night ones are good. Have a great holiday!

Yeah I'd use it again if I needed to delay and couldn't just run my pill on. I don't remember any side effects at the time. Just awful pain and heavy flow when period returned.

I've used it twice. Once for a 'holiday of a lifetime' type 2 week holiday which was booked a year in advance but still ended up with my period miraculously wiggling it's way to falling slap bang in the middle of it. And once for my honeymoon! (again i tried to book the honeymoon with my cycle in mind but my body had other ideas and the month before my wedding month it slipped 2 weeks out of whack. Thanks so much for that My Uterus! Hmm)

Enough of my moaning! I came to say that yes it works - but in my experience the tablets stop the actual bleeding (you have to remember to take them) but all your usual other symptoms seem to arrive on schedule and then keep flipping going till you stop the tablets. For me that was 2 weeks of hunger, break outs, irritability, tiredness, hunger, bloating, hunger, sore boobs ... did i mention hunger? Sigh.

Do a trial run first. I used it and it was fucking awful. It was like my period was trying to come but couldn't and I had all the cramps and pain (even worse) just not bleeding. I wouldn't ever use something hormonal for a special event without testing it first as everyone reacts differently and it could really ruin your trip if you don't react well. Everyone else's experiences are just that: everyone else's. See how it works for you first.

Unlike pp's I didn't find my period was particularly heavy afterwards (well it was v heavy but it always is), however it did give me low mood/irritability over my holiday. I wouldn't take it again over a holiday but I might use it before for a shorter time to push back/bring forward my period - hopefully if I got the same side effects it would be for a shorter time and not over an expensive holiday!

I was given it as an emergency to stop ridiculously heavy peri menopausal bleeding.
Took it for 2 weeks. It worked alright.
trouble was when I stopped taking it I haemorrhaged so badly I was admitted to hospital and mood wise I have never felt so low in my life. Which, never having had low mood before was a shock.

Oh I stopped taking it during that trip and my period came a few days later and it was a massive relief! I wish I'd just had my period when I was meant to and got it out the way as taking that stuff just drew the whole thing out and gave me period symptoms for like 10+ days instead Sad

I bloated enormously and was a hormonal mess, but my period wasn’t horrific.

I had bloat and pain just no bleeding

Yes it works but on holiday I felt REALLY hormonal and irrational Confused And my next period, oh my god the pain was unbearable and I do have a high pain threshold so personally I’d never take it again.

I've taken it a few times. It does the job, and I didn't have any side effects while taking it. But I did get really bad headaches when I stopped (for 2 whole days) My period was just as heavy as usual, they are very heavy anyway.

I'd take it again if I had to. I'd rather 2 days of headaches than a holiday where I can't actually go out at all due to my periods.

I've taken it several times and although it gave me a few cramps and the odd hormonal spot I'd take it again if I needed to. But I agree with trying it out first

If you can I'd recommend taking it the month before your holiday rather than during it, I would get sudden intense period pains that would sometimes knock me off my feet while taking it.
My periods were completely normal after

Report
kennyjenny · 12/06/2020 10:47

I've used it once to stop a period during a holiday and another time during IVF. Both times were absolutely fine and didn't hurt after. I got mine from Llyods pharmacy.

My periods are really really irregular (maybe 3 a year) but they always seem to come along just as I’m about to go abroad, so I take it as a precaution rather than anything else, but it’s always been fine and never any side effects - just don’t forget to take it regularly!

Report
SoupDragon · 12/06/2020 10:57

I've used it several times and had no side effects at all (bloating or horrendous period after).

The only time it didn't work completely was when my period arrived early so I hadn't managed to take it 3 days before. It did still work but
I did have occasional spotting. Other than that, it's always been great.

Report
PatriciaHolm · 12/06/2020 10:58

I've used it lots and no side effects at all! No pain, etc. But I don't get those for normal periods either.
