Boris Johnson has said that there will be a mass catchup for school children over the summer. Does anyone know what this will involve?

All you’re going to get here is wild speculation. Better to wait for the actual announcement.

Nobody can answer that question.

It will be left to each individual school to sort. Cue massive variants in expectations and effort, causing further anger from parents and more mass teacher bashing angry

Was there an inference about Summer School?

I would say if you replace the word "catch" with the word "fuck" it will be clearer.

Nobody knows - and that includes Boris.

I hope it's an ambitious, considered and effective project <hollow laugh>

Hahaha! No-one knows, least of all schools who all found out about it at the sane time as everyone else. Just as dentists suddenly found out they were opening up and schools realised they had two days to swap to a totally online curriculum.
I swear he makes it up as he goes along.

It will entail Dominic Scummings travelling to each town and village giving age appropriate geography lessons- he’s great at travelling.

Whatever it entails it can't be as good as the Spanish/computing/maths/write a sentence each story mashup that I have just done with DD age 8 in the most desperate hour of home schooling whilst writing a CSE safeguarding assessment. hmmhmmconfusedconfused

Brilliant grin

I don’t know who is going to be teaching. I know a lot of Primary teachers who have worked Virtually full time since lockdown, including Easter Nd half term holidays and are not going to be working in the Summer holidays looking after or teaching children

Pieceofpurplesky Thu 11-Jun-20 12:42:27

I have said this on the other thread. I imagine what will happen is he will chuck some money at schools and leave them to sort it. It won't be catch up, it won't be their teachers and it won't be proper lessons.

The tories scrapped the funding of summer schools a few years ago. They used to be for PP kids.

BlusteryLake Thu 11-Jun-20 12:53:20

Whatever it is, I hope it's not compulsory. I am done with trying to work and home school at the same time, and looking forward to a break over summer. I also think teachers need a break so we can all come at this fresher in September.

Cherrypi Thu 11-Jun-20 12:56:17

Saturday school?

lyralalala Thu 11-Jun-20 12:59:34

Nobody knows because there's no plan.

It's just another sound bite that will allow him to say "I tried, but the bad teachers said no" imo.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints Thu 11-Jun-20 13:08:43

Even Boris doesn't know that yet, Gavin might have something on the back of a postage stamp I suppose...quite how they're going to staff these proposed summer schools I don't know. None of the primaries or secondaries by me have closed since they returned after Feb half term.

ballsdeep Thu 11-Jun-20 13:10:17

We'll they aren't going to be opening schools for the summer term so I struggle to see how it's going to work in the holidays?

paxillin Thu 11-Jun-20 13:13:43

It'll be an embarrassing little parp announced with much fanfare like the rest of the big policy ideas.

AriettyHomily Thu 11-Jun-20 13:15:13

Fuck all.

My kids are still having a holiday as is my teacher husband.

Zoomintheroom Thu 11-Jun-20 13:15:48

Schools will not be expected to provide an education over the summer.

Is that you, Boris?

Pepperwort Thu 11-Jun-20 13:22:26

He is getting as bad as the POTUS for trumping whatever comes into his brain. Maybe whatever appears there has to fly out before it dies of asphyxiation or something.

I hope it's not compulsory, I am trying to homeschool one of mine who makes me want to tear my hair out regularly already. I don't want to have to stop and try to figure out how another load of online crap is going to work in as well.

ButteryPuffin Thu 11-Jun-20 13:23:04

He says all manner of things to try and make himself look good. World class trace and test system up and running by 1st June, anyone? 'We can turn the tide on coronavirus in 12 weeks', anyone? Won't happen.
