A lot of people dig deep in the past of black victims of police brutality, racism, murder etc. and then they use it to distract and derail from what is going on.

The background of the victims doesn't matter to the police so why should it matter to us? What difference does a criminal record make when you are being killed in the street, in broad daylight , in front of witnesses?

They've killed 12 yo children, men, women, EMT's, accountants, doctors, criminals. All these people have in common is that they are black.

Just this year we had

Ahmaud Arbery
Breonna Taylor
Maurice Gordon
George Floyd.

Late last year there were Atatiana Williamson and Botham Jean.

It's not about a particular person or victim, even if some are more publicised due to video evidence and witnesses.

It's about ALL black lives.

The slogan is Black Lives matter not Only Black Exemplary Lives Matter.

I agree, two wrongs don't make a right. Being a criminal doesn't give police right to kill you for the colour of your skin. the fact is, these policemen are jailing white criminals but killing many black ones. not ot mention killing or stopping and searching innocent black people.

The US policemen and women. I know Ahmaud Arbery was shot by civilians, but given their police background it still fits.

sweetlikecoca - Are you a bit simple? All I did was ask for clarity, which the OP was happy to give. Wind your neck in and stop accusing randoms on the internet of murder it makes you look very foolish.

There was a thread deleted yesterday or earlier today started by someone ‘uncomfortable’ with George Floyd being the ‘figurehead’ of BLM because of his history.

Report
PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 08/06/2020 22:02

A lot of people have been complaining about George Floyd being the "poster boy", without acknowledging that he's not the first or the last, that he's not THE victim, he's just the latest victim, and the tensions and protests have simply escalated with him because of the many black people killed so far and it's only June.

Have they heard about all the others? Or are they simply doing the same thing and focusing on the latest victim, especially since it fits certain narratives with his criminal record.

Not really given that there are BLM protests going on all over the UK and it would seem odd if their sole purpose was to protest against the US police force.

It wasn’t the sole purpose. You clearly need to watch tonight’s news.

The protests followed after the outrageous events of what happened in US yes but it was the final straw but there is still and has been a lot of problems here in the UK.

So whilst a lot of people are at home people have chooses to seek opportunity as it’s outrageous maybe some people can relate being ethnic and have also faced discrimination.... it’s not just in US it’s here too if it wasn’t people probably wouldn’t be protesting in the first place.

@mrsBtheparker the fact that I’ve just to explain to @lemonsandlimes123 why people are protesting Blush is not that I want them to agree with me I couldn’t really Care less.

Although I am shocked by their ignorance.....

It would wouldn't it?

However there is an issue with racism in the UK too.
There is an issue with police brutality in the UK too. Not at the same extent, but black people have been killed . Some people think it doesn't matter because the numbers are small.
There is an issue with black people being disproportionately stopped and searched, arrested, convicted and being harmed while in custody.
There is still discrimination.

So despite it "not being that bad" it still resonates with a lot of black people here. As are the fear, the distrust, the worries, the "talk".

sweetlikecoca - your last paragraph makes no sense at all. I was querying the OP for clarity, i am fully aware of the wider issues in the UK. I have no idea what your problem is but I really can't be bothered to respond to your attempts to generate some sort of manufactured conflict. Go and pick a fight somewhere else.

Princess - my response was to sweet who appears to be trying to pick a fight. I fully understand why people in the uk are protesting. I asked for clarity re your OP as I have seen posts similar to yours that seek to conflate the UK and US police forces, hence my question.

Well you need to make your mind up.

Previously you didn’t seem to understand the sole purpose and now you are aware of why people are protesting all around the world.

People are standing united.

Well said OP.

There was a thread on here over the weekend that was saying he was a criminal, he was this and that. and they had no sympathy for him. I said I didn't care what he did in his past, he was another black person killed by the police. I am fed up of excuses being found for the deaths of black people. They are murdered, we protest, they start to dig into their past as a way to absolve the murderers.

Also, some posters couldn't understand why black people were protesting in the UK as police brutality apparently doesn't exist here. When I listed the names of the black men killed by the police in the UK I was accused of tweaking the facts to suit my narrative.

His past doesn't matter because he was not killed for his past. He was killed because of the colour of his skin.

I really don't want this to descend into an argument between two people and the thread being deleted or derailed.

I can see you both feel strongly , but This is important. These names are important. They need to be known ,and heard and remembered.

This is much bigger than "posters boys" and criminal records.

Botham Jean was in his own apartment when a policewoman who finished a shift, missed all the signs, the door numbers, the strange surroundings and furniture, entered his apartment "thinking" it was hers and shot him dead.

sweetlikecoca - I am sure you think you have a point but you are just starting to look a bit odd. I am not sure why you want to argue with me and I am prepared to ignore the fact you inferred I was a murderer but really you need to stop it's a bit of a strange way to behave.

Black men that have died in police custody.
Lessons have been learned, enquires have been made and some are still ongoing (after years). The black community are right in being skeptical.
