KFC at home

MandyJane71 · 07/06/2020 17:42

I bought myself KFC (first time in months) and brought it home. I ate half yesterday and warmed the rest up (a 2 piece and chips) today for lunch. My partner said it smelled terrible and asked me to open the window and close the kitchen doors. Later he said that I must either only bring it home when he isn't here or only eat it if willing to open windows in the kitchen and close kitchen doors. He hates KFC and McDonalds and very rarely eats their food. Is this normal behaviour? Anyone else have this?

I say this to my DH when he eats stinky fish. Maybe I'm controlling and abusive but it's my house too and the smell lingers all day

Yabu for only eating half a KFC in one sitting.

It's reasonable to ask you to open a window and close the kitchen door.e

Except - does he listen when you make similar requests?

If it's one rule for him and another for you then tell him to piss off.

I hate fast food. Mcdonald's in particular makes my stomach heave. Even passing one..

He needs to get over it - he can be somewhere else while you eat it. My dad was this way about curry, totally ridiculous!

I hate the smell of frying eggs (makes me gag) and Mr Noodle has to open all the windows, close the door and put the extractor on full. He hates the scent of some of my scented candles and has told me I can't burn them if he's home.

To be fair I love KFC and it does smell a bit rank when you heat it up again the next day.

I think its normal to not want your home smelling of something you hate.

My partners favourite food is blue cheese and mushrooms and the smell makes me heave, he eats it probably one week a month but that one week he will have it 3 or 4 times, I wouldnt dream of telling him he couldn't eat something he loves Confused I'm an adult I have to either get over it or go upstairs for an hour. Your partner is being very unreasonable imo.

Hmm, I do think it's acceptable to ask you to open a window and shut the door. Some people are really sensitive to smells and it's not pleasant to be stuck in an enclosed space with them.

And reheated fast food (as in KFC/McD's) is just grim! Reheated Chinese on the other hand, is the food of the Gods Grin

There are some smells that turn the stomach & greasy fast food is obviously an issue for him. Is it a big deal to eat in the kitchen with the windows open?

I don’t usually eat KFC but I did visit a drive thru last week because I was hungry and there wasn’t a queue. The chicken was OK, but the chips were the real surprise. They were delicious and thicker than other fast food fries. Some were skin-on and they tasted far more like real chips than McD’s. I’m a convert.

I've not had a KFC in years until this week. We don't eat fried food at home. It was awful, greasy fatty poor grade chicken. Never again 🤢

Whilst we all enjoy eating (some) fish we all dislike the lingering smell. So, where possible, we cook with open windows/doors and leave them open for as long as possible. In the winter we've been known to keep a lit candle going.
My girls like tuna and I loathe the smell so they will rinse out the tin, anything it's been in, etc. immediately after use to minimise the smell.
We microwave cauliflower rice the other night - tasted lovely but smelt foul and lingered 🤢

Is it normal behaviour - yes, in our house.

Fried food is really really smelly, the smell of the grease makes me feel queasy. So I would be in the window open camp.

No one on MN would dare defile their bodies with anything that's not a Home Cooked Healthy Meal (from scratch) with a Huuuuuuuuuuge Salad.

I, on the other hand, had a KFC last night and it was fucking dynamite.

My dh eats lots of things I don’t like and the only time I ever kicked up a fuss was when I was pregnant and the smell made me vomit.

He is unreasonable

Yawn!

I love KFC when I’m doing the eating but loathe the smell in confined spaces when someone else is doing the eating.

He hasn’t come across well but an open window is a compromise.

I think it's an acceptable request if the smell really repulses him! Personally I love kfc and the smell but I'm sympathetic to bad smells making you feel sick

I'd laugh if DH told me I could only eat something if he wasn't home! I wouldn't have a problem eating in the kitchen (if we had a table which we don't) but sod eating with the window open unless it was summer.

I don’t think it’s too much to ask for you to open the windows etc. It’s horrible being at home with a smell that turns your stomach. I don’t think it would hurt to be considerate in this instance.

I think it's reasonable to avoid food that makes other people feel ill.

Dd loves macaroni cheese but the smell turns my stomach so she only has it if I'm working late. I ask her to also rinse out the saucepan before I get home otherwise the smell hits me as soon as I walk through the front door.

I’m not allowed super noodles in my house. Realllllly annoys me but not enough to bother with a fight 😂

You bought a two piece meal with chips and only ate half? Like, one piece and 10 chips?

I can’t get my head round this bit.
