AIBU?

To ask you how you pronounce this cheese?

How do you pronounce Gouda?

Gooda (YABU) or Gowda (YANBU)?

(If you're Dutch speaking and can say it properly properly, then I'm sorry, but you'll just have to shake your head and write a comment. Or silently move on whilst despairing of how English speakers mangle the names of your cheeses, artists and doubtless anything else we come across.)

Goo-dah.

Otherwise the joke doesn't work. What does the cheese say when he looks in the mirror?

Halloumi, Looking Gouda!

Still a bit gutted I didn't 'accidentally' put this in baby names.

I do actually know how to say it in Dutch. (In theory, if not in practice.) What I really want to know is how other people say it in English, iyswim.

Because it seems I'm saying it differently to most people I know and I was surprised!

I speak Dutch and say gow-da... mostly because if you say it with a hard G in the UK people think you’re choking Grin

I love this, really made me laugh.

The right way to say it in English would be gow-da. That's also how you'd say the name of the place in English too.

In my local excellent cheese shop a Dutch man came in and asked for something that nobody in the queue understood but fortunately the shop owner did. It sounded like "old cow" but was of course Gouda.
I agree with @undwrcaffeinated about he lots of phlegm. I have asked Dutch friends to say it and that is how it sounds.
