AIBU?

To ask you to settle a trivial disagreement?

When I say something to one of my DDs about DH and my bedroom, I describe it as 'my room', e.g. "please put that in my room". DH thinks I should say "our room", but I think that "our room" would imply a room I share with the DD I am talking to. So AIBU to describe the shared bedroom as "my room"? I know this is really trivial, but I thought MN might be able to tell us who is the normal one.

You are right and you are the normal one.

You are normal OP. Is this the only bit of strange possessiveness your DH has?

It actually hurt my head trying to work out the mental gymnastics your DH has to make his version make any sense!

You're right! If you were talking to DH presumably you'd say "our room". If you were talking to DD about your childhood home you'd say "my house", you wouldn't expect your siblings to come barging in saying "it was our house!" (Obviously being silly but you know, same thing Grin)

You're being clear in your language. DH is being odd.

Just to add, if you're going to bed, you would say "I'm away to bed" or "I'm away to my bed". No one would ever say "I'm away to our bed" 😂

You're right. You're speaking to your daughter, so 'our room' would imply you and she shared a room.

Would you say ‘our room’ if you were talking to your DH?

Yes, I'd say "our room" to DH. Definitely the only weird possessiveness he has.

Glad he's the weird one - thanks Grin
