AIBU?

I'm opening a food business. What do you want to see on the menu?

I know it's not an AIBU!

But I want to get my menu right! I love street food and we have some amazing street food where I live, but I want to do something different.

We have, on our doorstep, phenomenal Japanese food, Lebanese food, tapas, chicken, burgers, Vietnamese, gastro pub food, Indian, you name it, we've got it.

I'm keen to do great veggie and vegan stuff alongside proper meat.

The restaurant already does an amazing daytime menu that I don't want to change but the evenings is ripe for the taking.

I've got ideas, but I love you guys and want to know what you want to see on a menu.

In a hipster area. (yak, but true!)

Hit me with your ideas

Waffles. Or nachos. Not at the same time.

Thai food is great and has good veggie an/ veggie options aswell as loads of street food..or you could go down the good old fashioned pie route...also fab vegan/ veggie options.
As it is lockdown comforting but healthy food could be best.
Could you do a street foods of the world option?

I think decent Mexican food is pretty hard to come by. In fact, I lived in London up until 5 years ago and couldn't find anywhere to call a favourite.

Healthy and colourful veggie food. There needs to be more takeaways that are tasty AND healthy. A lot of takeaways are not even that tasty and you waste so many calories on them, yet you still need options when you can’t be arsed to cook.

Restaurant or takeaway/ street eats? Late night when pubs/clubs shut or dinner time? Tables or walk off with it in trays? Where are you in terms of clientele & nightlife - students /pub burger crowd/ hipsters wanting something new/ families post day out?

What's your daytime 'theme'?

I would have thought that your street food evening offering should match your normal restaurant offering, because that's what you know best and also for efficiency of ingredients.

Wraps usually work well and fit in with many different cuisines (Mediterranean kebabs, Mexican burritos, British Yorkshire pudding wraps,Indian spiced food in flatbreads).

Bao buns. There are loads of amazing filling options.

Loaded fries always seem to do well (eg lamb keema with coriander, chaat masala, pomegranate seeds, tamarind chutney, or pizza/burger style toppings or asian eg Korean stewed beef rib, sesame, kimchi, spring onion etc)

I live near a big street food place and my favourite at the moment is chicken wings. I dont know how they do them but they are phenomenal. Juicy on the inside and crunchy on the outside even though they have loads of sauce. It's a simple concept but so perfectly executed it's the best one.

Also lots of stalls do american desserts like cheesecake and brownies and doughnuts etc...it would be really nice to see some proper patisserie or unusual flavours of ice cream

Not a good time to ask. Literally anything tasty that I don’t have to think up and make myself would fit the bill for me.....!

Really good sandwiches. When ever I go out to eat its always big meals.

There's a market in London and they do a veggie haggis toasty and another stall does a type of Vietnamese sandwich. Bao bums with soya protein. A really good veggie burger with soya not mushed up veggies or a big mushroom.

As a veggie, I would also like to see veggie and vegan options. It's not the same and most veggies don't want vegan mayo or vegan cheese.

I like places that do a decent size menu well. Rather than somewhere that has 500 choices leaving me dubious about freshness and how much would be microwaved

The best restaurant in our village has 5 starters, 5 mains, 3 puddings and 1 daily special.

Properly 'safe' gluten free food (dairy free options too if possible)

Yes a decent veggie burger made from pulses etc. A mushroom or a piece of halloumi shoved in a bun is not a veggie burger!

Yes and vegans and veggies are not one group, I love cheese!

My favourites are Indian Street food, good pizza, tapas and mezze, all good for vegetarian and vegan options.

Google Bundobust, Tharavadu, Tapped Leeds, Franco Manca, Viva Cuba Leeds, Dos Amigos Leeds, Safran Leeds for the sorts of places I'm talking about.

I second the very good sandwiches.

Poutine always does so well round here.

Lovely side salads with a decent dressing with your main meal or as a lighter option with some interesting bread, fish meat or cheese platter! Not just 3 lettuce leaves... think carrots, green beans, cucumber or even rice and pasta all with their own lovely dressing. 😋
