I get people are trying to put a positive spin on things but we never 'needed' any of this. Ideally equality should be brought about without somebody being murdered. I think its a very privileged viewpoint to be able to change the way you 'look' at things and convince yourself there is a positive out of this situation. There has been mass suffering death and police brutality. This was not 'needed' and people should be aware of racism and equality without everything going on.

I can't think of one grand purpose of the corona virus either. I don't think some people can accept that sometimes life is unfair and awful and people suffer without it being part of some orchestrated grand plan that will work out in the end. To me if you post this it shows you are privileged enough to not have been directly affected by these things. You are using this awful year as a way to say you have been able to self reflect and go through 'personal growth'.

Lol I agree op I’m all for positivity but this situation is shit! My only silver lining is that I’m patient tolerant in my job, (nanny)

My lockdown has been “fine” apart from being very ill for two weeks. But I hope I have the grace to think of how devastating it’s been for so many.

Its just another lot of meaningless words amongst a sea of meaningless words, just another opinion lost amongst all the others. Nothing is going to change for the better, not really! Lockdown is only just easing down and everyone is back to business as usual. Despite all the twee little memes about shopping local instead of supporting big business and just look at the morons queuing hours for a MickeyD's or some crap ikea tat. More fly-tipping and littering than ever before, people shitting on the beach! Nothing ever changes for the better, no matter what awful things happen in the world.

I really don't see the issue with the post. A little passay or gushy but no worse than the other drivel people espouse on social media

@namedchangedtoprotect1 Its trivialising and undermining the suffering people have experienced because of the awful things that have happened recently.

It's written by an influencer whose Instagram account is mainly photos of her in her bikini 🤷‍♀️

Having said that, I do think we have to remember that not every comment on the internet is applicable to each of us. We're all having very different experiences of this pandemic. Some of us are working full-time whilst juggling childcare, others are furloughed and have time with their families now but perhaps uncertainty ahead, many others have real financial struggles. It's not realistic to expect people to write something that speaks to all of these groups equally, and you just have to ignore some stuff that is clearly aimed at a different audience.

@PhilCornwall1

People in a certain demographic haven't suffered any life changing hardship in lockdown (other than actually have to go to Waitrose because they can't get an Ocado delivery)

Fair enough question Phil.

I'm talking about a lockdown that fits in with the TV Lockdown Propaganda:

People in their gardens
People in their gardens humourlessly doing silly Tik Tok dances to fit in
People baking (with the children helping, lick the "patchula" etc)
Waving to granny over Skype
Waving to Grandad through the care home window
Clapping for the NHS
Kneeling for BLM
Schooling your kids in your large kitchen
Kids drawing rainbows to 10 weeks
Virtue signalling at every turn
Posting the kind of shite in the OP's post.

I know TV and social media has but almost erased entirely anyone poor, or anyone fed up or stressed or suicidal, or who disagree with the lockdown, or who are stuck in a tiny flat without a family, or gay or single with their social and sex lives destroyed, the jobs lost, the businesses ruined... it's all just been endless little screens of people in masks waving, obeying the rules, being so happy. Yes, it's been a very middle class lockdown. I'm not surprised it's ending in fury and violence.

Ah yes good old 2020

The year I lost my mum
The year my mental health tanked
The year OH lost his job
The year where I spent 4 months worrying about whether I still had a job.
The year when I was looking forward to spending 3 weeks in Australia visiting my sister.
The year when I couldn't hug my own daughter.

But none of that matters because I got to bake cakes. Hmm

We haven't suffered life changing hardship and on the surface, people will look and say we haven't suffered any hardship, both still working, full salaries, nice house to live in with decent sized gardens and they boys of an age where they can organise their own college and school work. Not one row between me and me wife. People have actually said, you've had it easy.

If they spend 24 hours with us they will see that it's actually not like that, as I'm battling constant pain and not able to speak to my specialist and live on constant painkillers. They just don't know and haven't seen this. It's been and continues to be bloody tough.

It's what goes on behind closed doors that people don't really know about.

YANBU OP I really, really hate that stuff.

One of my friends posted about how 'you are not broken, you are becoming.'
I actually find it quite unhelpful. I think it is much more healthy to be able to say, ' well that was shit/ this is shit. And now I need to keep going, rather than getting stuck in the shit.' You don't need to desperately try to find the growth message, or how this is where you are meant to be and it is all for the best in some way you can't see yet. That's psychologically damaging and it just might not be possible. If something is shit, accept that reality and keep living the best life you can.

It’s crass and sickly. Some times are just randomly fucking awful and have no upside. It’s like the trotting out of We must never let this happen again, when said about the Holocaust. We haven’t learned and genocide has happened many times in many countries since. There’s no learning been done, nothing positive about it. There doesn’t need to be a positive about utterly shit things because sometimes shit is just shit no matter how you wrap it up,

Not a stand out design for political impact and maximum readership, but certainly nice Instagram styling.

YY I am getting fed up of this self absorbed 'what I have learned / gained' from lockdown stuff when some people are really struggling just living day to day

It seems to be just part of an ongoing obsession we have had in recent years with being self absorbed and seems quite nauseating really right now.
