To think the lockdown needs to end now?

I could understand a lockdown being imposed for a few weeks to make sure the NHS was up to capacity, but it’s gone well beyond that. The NHS now has lots of excess capacity and yet here we still are.

I am horrified by what has happened to our civil liberties, what it’s doing to our children’s education, what it’s doing to everyone’s livelihoods and mental health, what it’s doing to the economy, how people are not getting life-saving treatment for things like cancer, etc.

I don’t understand why people aren’t given the right to choose to self-isolate if they need to but for the rest of us to be allowed to get on with our lives and to take responsibility for ourselves.

I don’t understand why people who are not old and don’t have underlying health conditions are acting hysterically and why people have decided it’s OK to police other people’s behaviour and shout at them in the street.

I feel like I’m living in some kind of awful dystopian society.

I realise I’m in the minority here but does anyone agree with me?

If only it was that simple.

@ssd It is that simple - Sweden has done it.

I agree with you. I'm trying to home school a reluctant 7 year old whilst working from home. It's impossible and I dread to think about the longer term implications on everyone's mental health. The daily infection rates and deaths are continuing to decline and I'm praying they ease the lockdown further and open up the schools to all children so they get some normality before the summer hols. It's time to open up.

It's madness to compare us to Sweden. Their country is not as densely packed and their government has far more trust capital with their people. Compare Sweden to Norway and then come talk about figures.

There are lots of things about Sweden that are different to the UK though. Things that work in one country won't neccessarily work well in another country.

Sweden have a tiny population in a big country. And they're having huge issues now because they didn't have a tight lockdown when it might have helped.

this, exactly We are, per capita, one of the most densely packed countries, that it one of the biggest factor for transmission rates. We are different to Sweden.

@incrediblysadtoo I haven’t actually seen any threads from people who think it should be ended and I wanted to know if anyone else felt the same way I do.

No thanks. Lockdown dhould have bern much stricter and because it wasn't we should do that now. The numbers are still far to high and easing is happening far to quickly.

I agree with you. People are not thinking rationally about this. When you try and talk them through step-by-step they lose it somewhere in the middle. If we are to have a second wave it would be much better to have it now before the summer when people are healthy, a lot have been resting for 10 weeks at home so likely less stressed and there is capacity in the hospitals before the winter comes and the flu season start.

I agree with you OP. Strict measures were put in place to avoid a catastrophe situation. That was avoided and things are pretty much under control now so it’s time to get on with it.

I think lockdown has unofficially ended let’s face it. The government has basically said that when shops opened before getting all the kids back in education. So much for Borris applying the brakes if infection rates were to increase even people in power can’t stick to the rules so there’s no hope for us normal people.

100% agree.
This is particularly awful for children - their wellbeing and development has been entirely ignored.

They actually operate within common sense as well. They're not as mindlessly self absorbed and entitled as many Brits.

The parks are like festivals (with even more piss and alcohol) and the beaches are packed out). The Swedes don't just take the piss. We can't be trusted to be sensible.
