Yes thread using it. Etc

It’s such a vile word. Yet people busy trusting guts, asking people how they feel in it. Etc

I’m on a no gut campaign.

Well it's a perfectly normal expression that most people use so I think you will have a hard time. Just my gut feeling though.

Vile? Are you sure?

Your gut is a really fascinating part of your body. You may not want to read about it while you're eating breakfast, granted, but...vile? How do you feel about the word "heart" or "bones"? "I feel it in my bones?" Too pukey still?

What I don't like is how people advocate trusting your gut for basically anything on here, like your gut feelings are infallible. And yes I have read The Gift of Fear before someone mentions it (and did think it was good).

If I trusted my gut all the time I would do so much stupid shit.

I think we should be much more anatomically specific about the gut and our feelings. A duodenal or jejunal sense of something is pretty sure, ileum or cæcum is perhaps more equivocal while feeling colonic could be a mere hunch (or flatus?)

If we go back to Galen, the brain was the seat of reason, the heart gave emotions and the liver was responsible for passion. This probably explains lots of my relationships.

As High Fidelity has it, and I quote from memory so it might not be be exactly right, " I've been thinking with my gut all my life. And I've realised my gut has shit for brains.".

I agree innards is far better. Go with your innards has a slightly preferable ring somehow, don’t you think?

Gut is from old English guttas and believed to stem from notion that emotions were seated in the stomach due to physiological response to fear.
