I don't know how likely it is that you'll be able to camp yet but would that be a viable option if you're able to? The weather's been lovely and the outdoors and fresh air might be a real help. You could go on some big walks if that's your thing to clear his head, and no risk of contamination as there might be in hotels etc.
I know camping isn't for everyone though but I'd personally love that if feeling unwell.

If your husband’s ill then maybe get some medical help instead of going on holiday? A holiday is nice but doesn’t cure illness.

It’s currently illegal to spend the night away from your home address. That’s why you can’t find anywhere to rent - because holiday home owners aren’t legally allowed to rent them out.

@CuckooCuckooClock
It's best to try other methods before medicine
There is no counselling available atm

It’s not permitted until early July as far as I’m aware.

Even camping you would need facilities which are still closed (shower/toilets etc).

You can go on a day trip for now. Would that help?

Camping is illegal at the moment as well, and all campsites are closed.

What's the problem with sleeping at home? What's wrong with day trips? What does your DH want?

A camping trip isn’t going to fix anyones mental health.

OP I'm sorry but no. You cannot spend nights away from your home address.

If it has gotten to the stage where you are breaking the law/lockdown medical help is needed. Then other things used to wean him off any medications

What are the actual issues - nowhere is open at the moment - today its illegal to be in another house unless you have reasons

People are getting fines for camping overnight.

I say this gently but - as someone who has suffered not insignificant MH problems - a camping trip isn’t going to fix it. Medicine doesn’t have to be the answer but it can be a short term fix until a longer term solution can be reached.

If NHS services aren’t available at the moment are you able to go private? Many therapists are working online and some I’ve heard of are meeting clients outside.

He needs actual help OP, not a camping trip. Get him an urgent GP appointment and a prescription for SSRIs, then on the waiting list for counselling.

Ok points taken I didn't actually realise it was illegal to camp

I nearly got sectioned early in lockdown. Counselling is ongoing via the telephone or video chat. I've been offered both. I'm also getting regular phonecalls and emails from my psychiatrist. I'm not on medication although I did try setraline briefly in the immediate aftermath. Is he getting any input from mental health services at all?

What about a day trip assuming you are in England.

Yes let's treat cancer with some handwaving and feel-good thoughts in first instance.

Mental health issues are an illness and should be treated as such. If his doctor prescribes medication it is for a clinical reason. If there are issues with the environment then they need to be addressed, not just pop off on a weekend away.

Has he tried taking St John’s Wort - that is a natural remedy that can help with mild depression - and I think there may be other natural remedies too. You can order these online from reputable sources, like Holland and Barratt and they might be enough to get him through this current depression.

There are also lots of resources online which can help him with techniques like mindfulness, or cognitive behavioural techniques that can be extremely helpful, and which he could practise at home.

Hope you manage to get the help he needs. It's great that you're aware and there for him. Good luck.

I would start with a phone appointment with his GP. Has he a history of MH problems? It must be very hard for you.
