Well said, OP! But I'd put your hard hat on as there will certainly be a lot of white privaledged posters to tell you how wrong you are Hmm

I hate the "All lives matter" response as it really dismisses the issue and misses the point.

@GreytExpectations
Hard hat at the ready! - That’s exactly why I posted! I’ve seen so much white privilege on here the last few days who just really aren’t getting it.. not getting that this is our fight too and ignoring it which is just as bad really... embarrassing isn’t it?!

I watched an interview this morning with Dr Shona. (The lawyer) Her point was very well presented.

However the way she spoke was like a rallying speech. It was delivered using very complex language that I worry will go over many people heads. I struggled to follow some of it.

We need to find a way to get the message across and reach ALL groups and all literacy and educational abilities . Especially our younger generation who will then be able to forge change as they become the adults of tomorrow.

It's like saying "ALL HOUSES MATTER" and expecting the fire brigade to douse every house on the street when the one that needs attention is the one that's actually ON FUCKING FIRE really isn't it?

God those people wind me up. Yes, all lives matter, but the ones in which this ideal is not acted out in practice are black ones. It's nasty, snivelling deflection and denial of the bare facts of living as a black person. And they know it.

I’ve thankfully not heard anyone stupid enough to spout such nonsense. This should be everyone’s fight. I can’t believe in 2020 we are still having to try and convince some fuckwits that black lives DO matter. Sad

I can't stop crying at that video.

Black lives matter to me.

Theres always whataboutary.

Gets on your nerves

People sit back do fuck all leaving stuff for everyone else to sort out then they have the nerve to complain they arent centred or included

People have always been free to complain about or protest or whatever about what they feel is important. Instead they always want to piggy back on everyone elses .

@peopleherearerightcunts I know I was sobbing! Its just awful that people have to educate their kids in that way!

The very fact that they've never had to campaign about lives mattering until yet another black person is murdered tells you all you need to know.

YANBU - there’s not excuse for that phrase in this day and age.

I heard a good way of explaining it yesterday.

If you're at a rally specifically for Breast Cancer, which pink ribbons everywhere, and with people who have survived mastectomies to the left and right of you, you wouldn't be shouting "ALL CANCER MATTERS!"

I mean, of course it does, but you're at a rally for Breast Cancer.

Agree OP, hate when someone spouts that rubbish. Of course all lives matter but that isn't anywhere close to the point - not all lives are in danger just from going about regular human activities. Black lives currently, somehow even in 2020 ARE

It's absolutely sickening and I'm so glad this has gained so much traction

Also I see the pathetic manbaby president is trying to make anti fascism seem a bad thing

WW2 was anti fascist. Churchill was anti fascist. Our grand parents and great grandparents who fought were anti fascist.

Any of you out there allowing yourself to be brainwashed into thinking 'antifa' is a bad thing, don't you dare wear a poppy or ever mention the blitz spirit.

That’s heart breaking op.
I feel so sad, these poor parents having to teach their kids how to survive their skin colour. And those poor kids having to learn it.

I come from the all lives matter brigade a few years back. I now fully understand (I like the explanation about the house on fire) I will explain and point out the difference to anyone who asks or brings it up. Calling people fuckwits and fainting with shock that people say this in 2020 does not help the cause. To shout people down for being privileged and white will also get peoples backs up.

Surely it's the job of white people to try and educate themselves and try and understand where the anger and exasperation comes from, not the job of black people to have to yet again explain everything to us.

Havent they got enough of their own shit to deal with to have to worry about without having to centre white peoples feelings and being unable to mention the privilege we have ?

To me it is one of the most ignorant phrases to utter and shows they have Bly care to deflect.

If all lives really mattered, they would be protesting with BLM, not trying to take away from it. They would be protesting against police brutality, not making excuses for it. You would expect and want better behaviour by the people who CHOSE and SWORE to uphold the laws and are supposed to be trained to know how to handle these situations not civilians who may or not be guilty of a crime which is for a jury to decide.

Also, where are these people when it is someone that looks like them being hurt by police? Why are they more upset by others speaking up for their own communities about police brutality?

I love the hypocrasy Of all lives matter. Yes all lives matter, the lives of these black people murdered by police mattered as much as the lives of the people murdered by anyone who wasn’t police. Now that we agree that lives matter, all of them, can we get on with working out why black people are dying at a greater rate?
