To wish that Cumming's Durham tour had not come to light?

Lovely1a2b3c · 31/05/2020 14:04

Does anyone else wish that we had never found out about Cumming's trip?

That way although one prick would have done his best to spread the infection from London to Durham, at least we wouldn't have the 'Cumming's Effect' (i.e. lots of people thinking 'fuck-it-all I'm above the rules and will do as I please now'). People will die as a result of this effect and by the time of the next general election the Cumming's situation will be long forgotten.

On the same note- please don't adopt a 'fuck-it' attitude; it's our families, friends, neighbours who could die from Coronavirus as a result.

The Cummings situation only came to light because the government wanted it to.

They want us to have a "fuck it" attitude. People were so scared after lockdown that this was released to get us all out (herd immunity anyone??)

That wasn't it. It was the teacher who reported it to the press that let us know about it.

No, I think it's right and proper that this has come out.

Unfortunately, because it's been so badly handled and he's not apologised, resigned or been sacked it's taken on its own momentum and people are, quite rightly, furious over it.

What I really don't understand though, is the mind set that says, he did it and got away with it so we can all do it.

This might make more sense if we were talking about someone committing fraud or theft but the people who think like that don't seem to realise that if they get it they, or their loved one, could become very ill or even die.

Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Dominic Cummings is an arrogant shit. I'm certainly not going look at what he's done and do the same just to, what? spite him?

He doesn't care what people do, he has no interest in anyone but what works for Dominic Cummings and it makes no difference to him whatsoever if you or your vulnerable granny dies of Covid.

As far as I know he did nothing that could spread the infection. The complaint was that people thought he broke the rules.

It's literally true though that what he did is only a problem because it was publicised, and because of the way it was hyped. I can't imagine a world where we expect media to sit on information, but if the quantity and type of coverage had nothing to do with serving media and political opposition agendas, most of it wouldn't have existed. Most of the country still wouldn't know who DC was.

No, there have been enough cover ups, better the truth is out and people see Bodge Job for the twat he is and hopefully vote for someone else next time.

Maybe @Crunchymum - it would make sense. Also why are they suddenly telling extremely vulnerable people that they can go out at a time when other people are no longer following the rules?

I get where you’re coming from totally, but m glad it came out. Not that anything has come of it though.

@RandomLondoner we don’t know he didn’t give it to anyone though.

@RandomLondoner, if he and his wife really did have Covid when they went to Durham then the following situations could have led to some spread of the virus:

  • Petrol stops
  • Toilet breaks on drive up and down
  • His wife taking his child into A&E (this was obviously necessary but would have been in London (where the infection was already at its peak) if they had stayed put
  • Stroll at Barnard Castle if he did get out and walk in town as other reports suggest.

This! I think far too many people have lost sight of what the social distancing/lockdown is all about. People were breaking the rules long before Cummings came to light, so it's just being used as a convenient excuse for people to do what the hell they want and sod the consequences.

I've heard far too many people regard SD as some kind of punishment. Very strange mentality. I know of one woman who deliberately sat on a seat in a train marked as out of service (for SD reasons) to "stick two fingers up at Boris" and she even posted a selfie of herself on SM to prove it! Some people really are incredibly stupid.

It is exactly @pigsDOfly (i.e. cutting your nose off to spite your face) but that's why I wish we had remained blissfully ignorant. I would prefer fewer people die, even it meant being unaware of just another situation, which highlights how terrible the government is.

It completely undermined the public health message, and I wonder if the leaking of it was deliberate. I wish more that he hadn’t done it in the first place. At least we now know who runs the country, and it isn’t BlowJob.

I'm glad it's come out because it exposes Johnson for the weak, vacuous person he is and demonstrates that the government's handling of the pandemic is incompetent if not criminal.

Random Londoner - As far as I know he did nothing that could spread the infection. The complaint was that people thought he broke the rules.*

I can help clear that point up for you. His Covid19 symptomatic family visited a hospital in the North East, exposing health care workers and potentially other patients to the disease.

I do wish it hadn’t come to light as I wouldn’t have spent the last week enraged by his lack of apology and the Government’s bullish attempt to whitewash it. Their inaction is causing the country to push back.

I care that leading UK scientists have said his actions are damaging public adherence to the rules just as we need people to be more vigilant not less!

I expect when we hear he’s resigned or an inquiry is set we will heave a collective sigh of relief that it’s being properly dealt with. Until then I care very much that he continues to damage the country’s effort to get through the pandemic.

By the way we don’t even know if DC and his wife had Covid or not. Yes, I know he said that he was unwell but he said a lot, only his little boy was tested negative.

I found it a very interesting coincidence that DC left London after BJ became unwell and came back to London only when BJ was out of the hospital.

I think it’s good in a way that this situation came to light. It’s about the past and what choices were made in difficult situations. People who stayed at home and chose to follow the rules won’t forget about DC.
Also the lockdown is eased atm. People who care won’t change their behavior even after this news. People who don’t care do whatever they want anyway.

pigsDOfly · 31/05/2020 15:05

The SAGE scientists have said they feel they aren't being listened to, which is very worrying.

BJ wants to be popular. I suspect he's going to carry on easing lockdown regardless of what's actually in the population's best interest. And anyway, didn't he and DC start out this whole pandemic with a 'herd immunity' agenda.

Wouldn't surprise me if they've decided to have a go at implementing that and see how it pans out.

No, but I wish he (and the government) had behaved like people with even a modicum of human decency as a result of his actions being found out.

I honestly think the “Cummings effect” as you call it would have happened anyway. We always knew lockdown could only last a finite amount of time before people rebelled.

It’s a handy excuse for people who would have broken lockdown guidance anyway.

I do wish it’d never come out because if I hear his fucking name one more time I’m going to put my head in the oven.

Report
LaurieMarlow · 31/05/2020 15:13

No OP. What a terrible precedent.

However I do wish that Cummings hadn’t broken the guidance or had apologised and stood down once the story broke.
