AIBU?

To find it scary that people have willingly downloaded the track and trace app?

This all reminds me of the start of some sci-fi/thriller movie.
Why are people so easily giving away their details to this useless government?

Because we don't want to die from Covid-19.

Because they have thought about it and are happy to?

And downloading this mess of an app is going to stop you dying?

Some people are happy to do so and others aren’t. No need to criticise those who disagree with you.

It's scary that so many people like you won't use it - thereby increasing the time we have to spend like this.....and increasing the people that will unknowingly catch it and die.

I'm not keen, but a lot of people are happy to share intimate details of their lives with the world.

I mean, how many times has Munsnet been hacked now?

Do you know how much of your information the government already holds?

Do you know how the app works?

If not, please read up and come back.
If you do please describe in detail what information the app will pass on to the Govt that they don't already have.

I love the idea of people naming just anyone
You can have a lot of fun with that
I imagine.
All your enemies
People who’ve down you down in the past
Bullies
People you’ve lent money to and have never paid you back
The gossip mongerers
If you’re feeling a bit bored one day, you could choose a couple of names from fb
All good clean fun from the comfort of your sofa
Where do you get it from?

I would happily download it

I don't think it's fair to point the finger of blame of those who die at people who don't want to download the app. Let's save that for a government that didn't act quick enough and is failing now at every stage to protect its people.

Eh, it's no worse than Facebook or Instagram.

Bonkers to think that in this day and age that your details aren't already out there. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

It doesn't ask for anything interesting. It doesn't have any permissions bar Bluetooth pings.

The app only has the first part of your postcode. The rest is location services. If you have a smart phone they know exactly where you are anyway, should they want to. If you use Facebook, they know far more about you than this app will tell them.
I’ll download it when it’s operational. I want out of this.

I will download anything that will help keep my family safe. I assume the people against it never use GPS or google maps?

I won’t be downloading it. There’s fuck all chance I’m going to isolate for 14 days unless I’m feeling unwell.

Vulnerable people need to isolate. The rest of us need to get on with it.

Why? So the government can see I’ve been to work, then the supermarket, then work, then home then the supermarket? Yeah they’ll get so much important info from that won’t they? Snort

So the government, (or whoever) are collecting all this data about everyone, and they are storing all this data somewhere and they have developed the necessary algorithms to plough through all this data and identify the really useful stuff about YOU.. and they're going to use that data against you!
You watch too much dystopian science fiction my friend!

Buy some tin foil and make a hat

I've noticed this phrase a lot on MN over the last few months. Always aimed at those questioning our (awful) governments motives. Interesting fact - the CIA coined the phrase to discredit anybody with a different point of view.

no way will I isolate

Yeah, force the 20 to 30 % of the population who are vulnerable to have to withdraw totally from society to avoid a risk that you personally don't have because you are happy to spread a potentially lethal virus

That's a great idea, that will really help the economy recover, it will really mean that people will want to help you whenever your life takes a nasty turn

And of course, most of those vulnerable won't be able to fully withdraw, they have children and jobs
So then what happens ? Hum..virus spreads. NHS gets overlaoded...and then whoops, back to square 1. A second fucking lockdown for everyone.

Thanks to the selfish idiots who won't self isolate

But how long do vulnerable isolate for? With this attitude this could go on for years. Surely it is better for us to work together and get the cases really low and contained.

How long do children stay off school? What future is there for young people with an attitude like that?

The government doesn't have enough resources to have a decent pandemic contingency, it's certainly not going to care less what you do on a day to day basis.
