Boots Opticians are opening from 1 July (I've booked an eye test for the 2nd as I was due to go in April).

My opticians sent an email yesterday saying they wouldn't see you for a routine check up but they would see you if you felt it was necessary/if you thought your prescription had changed. So hopefully other opticians will do similar things soon

I have sight test once a year but hair cut and coloured once a month as do many people so that might be why fewer posts about opticians. I know vision is more important than hair .
Still really looking forward to getting my hair done. Next sight test is February 2021.

I think the difference was with dentists that opticians were always open for emergency/essential care.

In the next couple of weeks, they should be available for reasons as meridith said, so if you think your vision's changed or you're having contact lens problems.

My optician/contact lens practice has sent out various emails in the past weeks about what service they were providing. They have had an appointment-only service for emergencies throughout, but emailed on Thursday to say they have been informed that they can open with immediate effect. They then list all the precautions that will be taken - everything sounds very sensible and careful. So I'd suggest contacting your optician to see when they are reopening.

Try Barnard Castle, I think Specsavers must be open.

DH makes lenses and has been working 1 day a week throughout for emergency prescriptions. His manager envisions a gradual increase in demand through June as opticians allow more appointments but he doesn’t expect to be back to normal capacity any time in the next two months.

DD had an appointment with specsavers as she had broken her old glasses and also thought her eyesight had deteriorated. They had very good PPE and systems by the sound of it - optician was in mask plus faceshield and so on.

When are dentists opening?

It’s all down to NHS England. They are the ones who have suspended routine eyecare. As usual Optics seems to have been forgotten.

After seeing Dentists say they are struggling to get PPE, and they have much more in the way of support from the NHS than Opticians do, I am really worried that my husband and myself may have to go back to work to see patients with no or very little in the way of PPE.

When are dentists opening?

Some are already open. I went this morning to have my invisalign treatment finished and teeth shaped and whitening treatment started. None of that is emergency treatment as it's all cosmetic dentistry. Dentist just wearing his usual surgical mask and gloves.

@fairgame83 So your dentist shaped your teeth- iI take it using a drill? Without an FFP3 mask and this was in the UK?
