Adults sulking over tickets

Our local national trust house has announced its opening back up from the 3rd. You have to book online in advance. I decided to book mine at midnight as I was still awake and really want to take the kids for a picnic and a walk. It's been a long time since they've done anything remotely normal. There were 58 tickets available for each day. I got two. Then by 9am this morning Saturday was booked up. Still spaces available on wed and Thurs and Sunday.

The page put a really positive welcome back post on Facebook. Everyone is kicking off. Threatening to cancer membership. Kicking off about non members being allowed to go.

None of them have bothered to read it states the house and play areas are remaining shut. They are asking if it's all open etc. Basically you can go for picnics and walks in the gardens.

If I didn't get a ticket I would not be on FB giving the page hell and being mardy. Theres literally 58 spaces and everyone seems to think they deserve it more than others. We won't be selfish and book again for a few weeks to give others a turn. But Jesus what is wrong with people's attitudes.

No not that area. I take it it's not just one place then!

So the online booking of places is open to all and not just members? I do think that's unfair on people who've continued to support the NT by paying membership whilst everything has been closed, and now can't get in due to reduced capacities.
(No need for sulking or rudeness though).

I think priority booking should have been given to members.

GrumpyHoonMain · 29/05/2020 13:24

I agree that it’s shit of the NT to not prioritise members - it’s the members who keep them going year round.

Report
Applepipsx · 29/05/2020 13:24

Yes anyone can go first come and first served. But they can only let 58 people in and there's going to be 100s that want to go. It's just a case of waiting until next week. I don't mind them having a grumble but not on a public forum. Just makes you look selfish. You were offered to freeze your account for 3 months too so there's always that option for anyone who's abit Fed up of paying.

NT members should definitely get priority booking.

Report
Applepipsx · 29/05/2020 13:27

Yes I do understand that but there's not enough tickets for members that want to go either. It's hard because they are trying to start it up again. I've been a member for 3 years but I look at it that if I go out five times a year to a property Ive had my monies worth.

Making a big fuss about something is the opposite of sulking. If they were sulking, you wouldn't know about it, unless they were in your house ignoring you. Misses point entirely.

Members should have had a priority. Especially still paying ones.

Report
Mammyloveswine · 29/05/2020 13:29

Omg members should of course have priority!

Report
MaggieFS · 29/05/2020 13:30

Woah- where was the offer of a three month freeze? I missed that. (Was happy to continue to support anyway, but now I am annoyed that there is no members' priority.)

Shocking that members don’t get priority really shot themselves in the foot there

Apparently they can't give members priority, something to do with their charity tax status?

I booked online at 6am and have a ticket for Belton House for next Friday. So I guess you have to get in early!!

Applepipsx · 29/05/2020 13:33

Yes maybe they should. But there's 58 tickets. So how can all members go Saturday?

I hear Belton house is popular. I've only been once years ago. It's just very limited tickets. Yes it's a shame if you can't go but nobody deserves it more than anyone else.

I put YANBU because of the rudeness of people on that page

I am another , like PPs, who think those with membership should have had first dibs on this occasion though.

@MintyMabel fair point lol!! I'm grumbling about people being rude to the national trust when they are trying to follow the rules! They can't let everyone in member or not.

not ALL members can go obviously, but the tickets should only have been open to members

4amWitchingHour · 29/05/2020 13:36

Hmm, I'm an NT member and I don't agree there should be blanket priority. The NT's strapline is 'Forever, For Everyone', so restricting it to members goes against their ethos. I think a portion of tickets for members would be good, but cutting off so many green spaces to people who aren't members is mean spirited.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 29/05/2020 13:36

But still, you got your tickets and I hope you and your DC have a good day out . It must be so hard on the younger ones (my youngest is now 16) all this lockdown .

I saw that kind of response on the NT northeast page - why didn’t you tell me first?, I’m so much more important, I’m cancelling my membership etc etc.

Poor social media person having to explain again and again that they’re not allowed to prioritise members.

I did wonder how many were really members rather than just goady fuckers.

Report
Applepipsx · 29/05/2020 13:37

Yes it would be nice. But even if 58 members got a ticket. There will be another 100 that is disappointed. It's not fair. But nothing is at the moment. You've got to just try again or go on Sunday.

That is true as the NCT used to give members early admission to nearly new sales but had to stop as it's not allowed.
