Ectopic with no fallopian tubes?

Goingalittlecrazy · 28/05/2020 21:46

NC for this, and posting here due to lack of any response in other places-hoping that I'll get some replies where there's more traffic! Don't know if this is an appropriate place to post but really am going crazy!

Ectopic 2010/2014 lost both tubes
1 x successful IVF 2014
1 x unsuccessful ivf 2019

Currently 6 days late for my period. No spotting no bleeds. Periods usually clockwork, prehaps early if anything.

Ive had sickness twice this month, sense of smell has gone wild (i woke up and was sick as I could smell neighbours smoking weed, woke up in night due to my dog having an accident downstairs in kitchen, woke up again another night thinking I could smell dog having accident, convinced I could smell scented toilet roll - and hated it, and the smell of diesel from someone's car through bedroom window made me want to heave)
I've had nausea in the AM, now headaches and lower right hand side abdominal pain.

Sexually active -

BUT i have absolutely NO fallopian tubes. There's no way I can be pregnant? Right?

I'm starting to go out of my mind with worry now. I've googled and googled but everything just references IVF.

Things are really tight money wise so I dont want to waste money buying tests just for AF to show in the next 72 hours... also i don't wish to go through the pain and reminder of that horrible single line... ive had enough confirmation of my infertility over the last god knows how many years.

Please can somebody put my mind at ease. Another ectopic with again, NO FALLOPIAN tubes at all, just isn't possible, is it?

Thanks all x x

YANBU - anything is possible

I have no medical knowledge as such, but an ectopic pregnancy is not necessarily in a fallopian tube but anywhere other than the womb. I think one of the main symptoms is abdominal pain. Do you have that? I think the only way to be sure is to do a test. Once you have done that at least you will know one way or the other. If nothing else it will put your mind at rest.

Do you have any close friends who might have a spare pregnancy test lurking at the back of their drawer you could use? Someone might have bought a pack of internet cheepies and have spares?

Totally get you might not want to discuss it in real life though.

I dont know if its possible but I hope it all works out ok x

Yes it can happen, it’s really rare but it can.

Please take a test.

It is possible to have an abdominal pregnancy. Rare but possible. You should do a pregnancy test.

There is a lesser known type of ectopic, called Cornual Pregnancy. This is where the fetus grows out through the womb lining and not in the actual womb.

I hope you are ok, get a test!

How would your eggs get from the ovary to the womb? There are stories of 'miracle babies' but its very rare.

AuntieDolly - its not the miracle baby thing I'm really thinking of, I'm really scared of it being another - prehaps more serious ectopic. I have no idea how the sperm would even get to the egg without the fallopian tubes.
I have absolutely no grand ideas of being miraculously pregnant in the right place. What I'm petrified of is being pregnant at all, when I shouldn't be!
A Google search doesn't really come up with anything conclusive about what happens to the sperm/eggs without fallopian tubes.

.....thank you so much for everyone replying and the poll answers too, where I posted before the thread had been up for several hours with not one reply so I'm very appreciative to all those who have taken time to respond.

I havent got anyone except for DP to talk to about this IRL... and im afraid even if I did open up to someone IRL they would think im as crazy as I feel! Grin

I have got lower right side abdominal aches, but sometimes I do get a pulling sensation in that general area, and im wondering if im just tuning into it because im getting in my head about it.

I would do anything just to get my period and put my mind at rest! Im hoping to feel very stupid, very soon!

Im unsure if to give it until June 1st (9 days late) to buy a test, as then I would have officially not have had a period in May.

It's very unlikely, how old are you? Perimenopause?

It's possible to get pregnant after having tubes tied, so I'd assume it's theoretically possible while being highly unlikely. Bodies behave very strangely, and although I'm a nurse I can't claim to have a good understanding of the really in depth gynaecology involved (as proved in our cervical cytology training where we had to label it all and even the midwife next to me struggled with some parts!).
Can you call your GP for a consultation? They may do a pregnancy test if they're concerned or be able to put your mind at rest.

OK I googled and found stuff, I posted that one as it is fairly simply explained, obviously in this case it wa a viable pregnancy which is incredibly rare, but apparently ectopic or abdominal ones can certainly happen. Given that would be dangerous, I suggest getting GP involved ASAP just in case.

A few years ago I fell pregnant, started bleeding and all blood tests pointed towards an ectopic (hcg rising very slowly). However when they scanned they couldn't see any sac in my tubes or anywhere. They said I was having a pregnancy of unknown location and I had to be treated using methotrexate. Not sure if that is possible with no tubes but I hope it isn't anything like that. Good luck

Again, thank you for all the replies and links, people searching on my behalf -

Some extra background:

First tubal ectopic 2010, was with complications when the operation was botched and they ended up putting a hole in my bladder having not realised, while in recovery they had to rush me back down for another surgery and fix my bladder, opening me up in a c-section type operation.

2013 IVF
2014 my DS was born via c-section

2014 I lost my remaining tube to another tubal pregnancy. Keyhole op to remove tube. Successful.

2019 failed IVF.

So I should imagine there's quite a bit of scarring/scar tissue around my reproductive areas, which is making me more nervous about my current predicament

-but im also feeling very stupid as I'm sure another etopic can't happen and its all in my head - my period will come and ill feel like a right dickhead!

It’s technically possible but realistically this sounds like a late period, stress and PMS to me.
Could you nip to the supermarket tomorrow and buy a couple of own-brand tests? They’re only cheap and it’ll stop you worrying.

@Goingalittlecrazy Im no expert in the area but another ectopic (non tubal) is possible I believe. Im sorry you are financially stretched and worried. But, as you know, the risk of ectopic pregnancies are treated as serious risk so if you have any more doubt, get to your Gp who will have to do a test for you or better yet, pop a call/visit to your EPU who are best placed to advise/ test you. Hopefully its not anything at all to worry about, and most likely its not. But 2 past ectopics means you must be screened quickly. Sorry cant be of more help x

It is rare but possible if you have working ovaries.

What can also happen is the tubes can reattach, it's incredibly rare but can happen.

So three possibilities

Your period is late due to some reason
You are pregnant
You are having another ectopic pregnancy. An ectopic pregnancy usually ends because the fallopian tube is 'blocked' by the foetus, you probably know this, but when they occur elsewhere that doesn't always happen and in rare cases the pregnancy results in a baby.+

You can get a pregnancy kit in the £ shop or B and M if they are open. You can also get a free one at your GP or at A and E.

Can you contact the consultant who looked after you with the IVF?

Back to possibility 1, you could have a cyst or somerthing else. You do need to talk to a Dr.

I had an ectopic and lost a tube. I was told that they can still implant in the 'stub' of the removed tube by my fertility clinic Dr. I'm sorry you are having this worry after all you have been through. Flowers

GP here - you can definitely have an ectopic - any tubal surgery puts you at increased risk.
Please go and see a doctor.

8 days late today - I've had a thought, ive had 2 x courses of antibiotics flucloxacillin, over the last month or so, could this be the culprit of late period? Antibiotics were for a facial piercing infection.
If period is a no show today, I shall be taking a test in the AM (Although I still feel really stupid)

Thanks again to everyone who has replied.

I had a cervical hetriectopic but that was following IVF. One baby in womb and one in cervix. Had no tubes so didn’t think I could have another ectopic. Lost both babies 5 weeks apart. Had surgery to remove cervical ectopic massive blood loss but baby in womb stayed put, but 5 weeks later had miscarriage 😢. Rare but potentially very dangerous...

My understanding of an ectopic (I’m not a medical person but had reason to ask/look into it) is that it simply means ‘not in the right place’. Medical trained people with more knowledge have said that there could be an ectopic and that seeking further advice would be good - I think a test and an appointment with a GP on Monday would probably be very wise.
