AIBU?

Is the clapping still going on in anybody else’s neighbourhood?

Seems we are the only house on the terrace that hasn’t done it tonight. We did it the first couple of times but have stopped as it seems to be all about who can make the loudest noise.

Some bloke and his child shouting at everybody to clap louder, some woman brought a bloody stereo out and was playing disco music. It’s still going on now. A tram track runs next to our road and a tram came down and the driver pressed the horn, I assume as an attempt to join in (we’re right at the end of the route where there is only one tram around at any given time, the horn is never usually used).

AIBU to think people have forgotten what it was for and now it’s all gone a bit fucking daft?

I heard somewhere that today was the last one for now. I’m clapping for that!

There's a woman every week a few doors down who walks up and down the street shouting "Come on let's have you!" over and over. It actually puts people off going out and clapping. I wish she'd stop.

Yeah I thought today was the last one. Ours is also some sort of noise-off now... horns, fireworks etc.

I’ve never clapped, it’s all a bit too awkward for my introvert little brain. I’m an NHS worker but it still makes me feel like a monster for not doing it! The neighbours have made comments.

Hardly any tonight compared to previous weeks. There's always a car horn though and one over-enthusiastic clapper

It's just stopped, it went on for bloody ages.

I think it's got sort of competitive. Every week there are more and more people banging things and today some fucker was ringing a bell. The first few weeks, there was no-one out doing it at our end of the road, but there seem to be a few more families out here this week.

Most of our near neighbours are child-free, none of us have been out once. Blush

I've had a

I always come in and shut the door just before eight. Honestly, the racket made by neighbours banging pans, cheering, clapping, singing, honking horns and letting off fireworks frightens the cat and sets off all the neighbourhood dogs.

Just stop it now.

Not many tonight thankfully.
Hopefully this will be the last one .
Did the first one and then it got stupid

Haven't heard it in our area for weeks. I think the first week was the only time I heard it.

Disco music woman is still out there being obnoxious, playing it on full volume. A few people on the street have young babies, next door have a newborn ffs Confused

Some twunt In a house behind me just let Off some fireworks. But my road is quiet as I think sense has prevailed and people have stopped behaving like circus seals.

No. It only happened the first two weeks.

Yes, good turn out tonight. I heard that this is to be the last one, so maybe people made an extra effort.

Absolutely loads here.
I actually forgot about it and wondered what the fuss was until I realised it was 8pm on a Thursday.
Right now all neighbours are out chatting and laughing and im listening to them through the open window.
Haven't wanted to go out for weeks, but sometimes have just to show our faces.
Hurray if this is finally the last one!!!!!!

Bugger, posted too soon.

I've had a bellyful of noise today. I had a very complex bit of work to do.

First NDN cut his hedge with noisy trimmers, then over the road strimmed the front grass, then we had a builders lorry delivering stuff with a crane thingy, then there was loads of angle-grinding type noise.

When that all stopped, the odd woman across the road came and sat out on the pavement with her garden chairs, her mate, and 4 kids between them. Between the cackling and the shrieking I couldn't hear myself think. They have a back garden, ffs, why she has to come and sit beside the road, I have no sodding idea.

Unless it's because her back garden only gets the sun until about 1pm, in which case she should have bought a house on my side of the road!

Our street did it for 2 weeks and that was it. A few snide comments about us not participating but I was recovering from a csection, caring for a newborn and we also have a toddler. Sometimes I'm not even sure if it's 8am or 8pm!

It was a bit half hearted in our street tonight. I am already in my nightie so didn’t go.

Same racket outside here as usual, bloody football siren going off and banging pots. Thank God that's the end of it.

Yes last one tonight so maybe people are making a final show of support

The mad women a few doors down just been loudly singing Wonderwall from start to finish. What's that got to do with the NHS?

Tonight was the loudest yet on my road! I didn’t go out though, it scares my dogs too much so have to keep them calm indoors. Plus can’t face looking at the hypocritical neighbours who have had people round, they have friends there now yet they’re standing outside all brazen clapping and banging their pots 🙄

Didn't clap tonight as too pissed off with the neighbours. They were all out in force clapping however they have had children running in and out of each other's houses all week. DS can see them playing together outside and is getting upset that I won't let him go. They were sitting together in a paddling pool, jumping on a trampoline and then all sat on the pavement together. No social distancing at all yet they clap to show their support. Hypocrites!

It was still noisy around here this thursday... I'm really hoping it stops now.

The first time was great, really felt like a community coming together to do something and as a one off or an occasional thing I don't mind, but I start work very early in the morning and am often sleeping at 8pm and tbh it's really annoying being woken up every thursday.
If it was just clapping it wouldn't disturb me, but the pot banging, horns, stereos etc are all really hard to sleep through!

Oh ffs the most awkward thing just happened. Just walked home and ended up innocuously coming up my road at bang on 8pm. Practically every member of each household was out and staring at me, felt like I was being judged for not joining in
