I’ve been contacted by my massage therapist saying she’s considering opening again in July , aibu considering having a massage, when I’ve spoken to friends they’re really shocked that I might do it

Tricky one. I would wait to see what stage we are at, what guidelines are in place and what measures the therapist has put in place before making a decision.

I probably wouldn’t go for a massage myself, because she would have know way of knowing if she had been exposed by one of her other clients, and you would be in close proximity for a reasonably long time. I’m not remotely hysterical about this virus, but that feels like too much of a chance for me.

I'm off for a massage as soon as I can! I've messaged a mobile masseuse I know and as soon as she is happy and can accommodate I will have her here on a shot!
I've been bent over a computer screen since furlough began and I'm in pain a lot smile

Get on YouTube and look for yoga for (shoulders/back/whatever is sore), and do the exercises, every day. Honestly, it will help. It's about using your body in a different way to counteract the damage you are doing. Don't wait for a massage therapist to be available, be proactive and figure out what works for you!

What a stupid title.
She’s not a stranger, she’s your massage therapist who I assume has given you a massage before and has your permission.

To answer the actual question, yes I will be going back to my beauty therapist ASAP.

I really want a massage, but I don't see how you could minimise the risk unless you were the massage therapist's only client and they lived and worked next door.

I don't know how that industry makes a come back. Which is especially shit, given how many massage therapists are self-employed.

I bloody love a massage. I come out feeling all wibbly and relaxed. I can't wait till ours reopens to book myself in again.

Yes I would. But this thread title is a bit misleading grin

heartsonacake Thu 28-May-20 13:09:55

I love a massage but no, not right now. I’d wait a few months until everything dies down.

ScarfLadysBag Thu 28-May-20 13:10:12

Also my friend is a massage therapist and has tentatively reopened bookings from July 4. She was booked out that same day for weeks and weeks ahead. So plenty of people are up for it!

malmi Thu 28-May-20 13:11:56

Reiki, it's your time to shine...

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace Thu 28-May-20 13:16:52

Yes, I'd be absolutely fine. As soon as I can do things again, I'm doing them.

Stillonthatbloodycomputer Thu 28-May-20 13:18:58

So sorry if you felt the title was misleading, it wasn’t meant to , although she has massaged me before it’s only been a couple of times, and she’s not a friend

Errm, no. I'd have no way of knowing who else had been there.
When I saw your thread title I didn't realise you meant in the context of a massage therapist providing a service during the corona virus.

overwork Thu 28-May-20 13:27:18

The minute mine feels comfortable going back I'll be going to see her. Can't wait smile

Inoneminute Thu 28-May-20 13:28:04

I wouldn't go for "just" a massage but TBH that makes me uncomfortable anyway. I would go to my trusted physio, if I had an injury that I needed help with. Before lockdown he was spraying everything thoroughly between clients and he's always meticulous about hand hygiene, to protect himself as much as clients, I imagine.

BlueJava Thu 28-May-20 13:28:49

For me it would depend on what we're allowed to do according to government guidelines. If it's a yes then definitely I'd go!

Waxonwaxoff0 Thu 28-May-20 13:32:54

Yeah, wouldn't concern me.

IntermittentParps Thu 28-May-20 13:54:28

Honestly, only if they and I had both tested negative.

VenusTiger Thu 28-May-20 14:03:21

The title doesn't match your post?

Do whatever you want, it's your body.

Cherrysoup Thu 28-May-20 14:03:32

Click bait title. Yabu.

Stillonthatbloodycomputer Thu 28-May-20 19:21:56

Wow ! I really am surprised that someone thought my title was click bait, it was a genuine question, I’ve had a couple of massages from a lady who works from a local hairdressers, she’s very pleasant and has told me she’s going to start up again and would I like to book, I actually thought it would be good but several friends reacted by saying how could I let a stranger touch me, that’s why I used the title , if some think that’s wrong then I do question your minds, but hey we’re all entitled to an opinion.
