AIBU?

You've got really low standards if you think Boris is doing well/okay

Day by Day it just gets worse. Bodies piling up, lies being denied or covered up, blatant and shameless cronyism and corruption yet Bojo fangirls and fanboys keep lapping it up. What does he have to do to blow it huh? How can your standards be so flipping low?

You could do better, could you?
FYI bodies are 'piling up' in all countries not just ours. He's doing the best he can do in difficult circumstances and I'm sick of the hate towards him.
Change the bloody record.

Bodies are very much not piling up in all countries. If this is his best he is obviously incompetent & not up to the job.

Political point scorers in this situation are bloody gross.

For every chip that is successfully taken out of the country's unity and momentum, the more likely it gets that people will be out having brawls on beaches.

Attacking the group morale will kill people... but you do your thing I guess.

He’s obviously totally out of his depth. We now know who does the thinking 🙄 Appears Boris cannot function without DC see how he is prepared to put his neck on the line for him ...

It’s not political point scoring to hold our government up to scrutiny. Their response to this crisis has not been good enough & a lot of people have died because of it.

Report
MsTSwift · 27/05/2020 22:10

What makes it worse was that initially he did have majority support and he’s managed to lose it.

Might I remind you, some of those "bodies piling up" in your gleefully repeated political slogan are our loved ones.

Could you just pretend every time you do that little flourish someone sent you a picture of their dead relative and called you a rude name? It would save the rest of us lowering ourselves. Sad

Absolutely agree. I’m angrier still now because I just read that Maitlis has been suspended from Newsnight for calling it all out as being absolute fuckery- honestly, I know that the BBC have impartiality rules to abide by but COME ON. He’s a cock of a prime minister with literally the devil as an advisor and he’s now chucking his toys out of his pram because people are cross with the devil for doing bad things and a serious journalist pointing out that this is all bollocks gets in trouble. She isn’t the problem here. This government are fucking beyond the beyonds now. And the weird thing is that I feel like everyone is saying it now but they’re still trying to pull this “Remainer, Guardian Reading lefties need to get a grip” thing.

It’s baffling isn’t it? I can’t work it out at all. The power of the right wing press I suppose.

Jesus.

Could he have done better? Possibly. Probably.

But everything is better with the benefit of hindsight and when your arse isn’t burning from sitting in the hot seat.

I wouldn’t have liked that job.

And I’m saying that as someone who has now lost a loved one to this virus after being ‘lucky’ for weeks.

Boris didn’t kill him - the virus did. Despite the most wonderful efforts of those who tried to keep him alive.

@CharlottesPleb so we should keep our mouthes shut and get behind an incompetent lying buffoon for the sake of unity? Where is the unity when there's one rule for the elite and another for the rest? Where's the unity when we are lied to every day and people have needlessly died. I suppose all those who have sadly passed needed to show unity eh?

Japan, which has a higher population density than us, has had fewer than 1000 deaths.

Poland, which is not much smaller density-wise, has had just over 1000 deaths.

Now tell me what a great job Johnson is doing with our 37,400 deaths.

It is criminal.

Boris Johnson is no longer a politician, he is a cult leader. It doesn’t matter what he does, some fools will always support & defend him.

Boris just doesn’t seem like a leader, and regardless of what you think of DC why are they so reliant on this one guy? Weird and not very transparent, looks weak

I think I would have done better to be fair. Because I give a shit about people, and I am not arrogant enough to think I know it all and therefore I listen to experts. I remember a few weeks before lockdown looking at data from the 1918 flu pandemic and it clearly showed deaths were much lower when schools were shut down earlier and for longer, and wondering what the fuck we were doing letting concerts and sports events go ahead.

He may be doing his best in difficult circumstances but his best, is frankly shit. Most comparisons are going to show that we have one of the highest death rates per capita in the developed world. And for a country that had a few weeks head start on its neighbours, there is no excuse. People should be able to hold the governments actions to account, without being accused of 'lowering morale'. And the whole 'JC would have been worse' argument is irrelevant. If you do an awful job in your new role at work, you can't shrug it off with a 'but I'm sure the other guy you interviewed would have been worse'. He got it wrong, people have died, and he's not even sorry

He is the doing the best he can.

Which is a pretty low bar, because he’s incompetent. So incompetent it’s embarrassing.

Could he do better?

No because he’s Boris Johnson.

Would someone else do better? Er definitely yes. Look at the wet dreams people were having over Sunak for example.

Boris is out of his depth.

I actually think that he's done a pretty decent job in totally unprecendented times. The Dominic Cummings thing was not handled brilliantly - they should have got out ahead of it - but I'm in the minority of people who had the same interpretation of the rules as DC - i.e. minimise transmission in usual circumstances, but if there was a reasonable chance that childcare would be impossible, other rules had to be broken. Most of the other decisions he made seemed entirely appropriate to me, even if in retrospect we might have done something differently. I don't feel I can criticise someone if I wouldn't have done better myself given the same information.

They are unprecedented times for most of the countries in the world so that does not wash.

Sorry mathdoc but I don’t buy the line that reasonable childcare was impossible. Not a fucking jot of it.

Given the distance between DC and his parents, they couldn’t have used them for regularly childcare so what a load of bullshit.

It’s bollocks.

People have such low standards that they think Boris Johnson is doing well? This isn’t an episode of have I got news for you.

Mathdoc, do you drive a medium length journey to check you are fit to drive a long journey (and check you can see!?!) or in his case would you just get your nonvisually impaired spouse to drive home?
