I’m playing by the rules and still properly social distancing so there’s no way I’m self isolating for 2 weeks if they call me.

I thought people who tested positive were being asked for the names and contact details of anyone they'd been in contact with; those people will then sent a message from the people doing the tracing.

We wont have the app for some time, if ever.

It doesn't work like that. When there's an app you can choose not to download it if that's what you want. At the moment you'll be contacted if someone who has tested positive says they've been in close contact with you.

They aren't using the app so it's based on information given. Even if you were using the app, it is based on proximity and length of time. You won't be isolating because you walked past someone in the park.

I think you’re confused OP. They only call you if you’ve been in contact without PPE for 15 minutes or more.
You may get an alert if you download the ap but clearly if you’ve only passed by someone it’s unlikely to have given you CIVID.

I've already been asked by my sister to not give her details if I ever test positive. She's self employed and says she can't lose the work.

Yep, they can’t organise a piss up in a brewery so the app isn’t going to be used.

Boris confirmed people will be asked not told to self isolate. I suspect many people won’t. I know of an nhs trust who are currently penalising front line staff if they have to isolate due to symptoms and they go on to have a negative test. It gets counted as one of their 3 strikes and you’re in trouble policy. I suspect they will soon have staff going to work even with a cough. And certainly have staff going in who don’t have symptoms but should be isolating for 14 days.

They're not using an ap. They are doing contact tracing only of people who have spent 15 minutes close contact with someone who has tested positive.

IE if you went to the hairdresser and 2 days later the hairdresser tested positive then she tell them whose hair she has cut over the past x number of days and they will contact you and tell you to isolate for 14 days from the day you were in contact with her.

Same the other way. If you test positive and you have been to the hairdresser/nail bar/non socially distanced bbq then they will be informed.

The chances of it happening with current levels of infection in the community are very very low.

I'm not mad keen on the idea of isolating but far better just to isolate the individuals that have been in close contact rather that the whole area - or worse the whole country.

But GDPR dictates that personal info cannot be given without consent - certainly from businesses./customers etc Not sure about personal contacts

Does anyone know what would happen regarding wages if we were for example told to isolate for 14 days, then a week later the same again?! Hairdressers etc could potentially be back to work a few days before having to isolate over and over who pays the wages?!

Most people I know aren't downloading it, I won't be either. I'm working from home for the foreseeable future and I mostly get my shopping delivered - don't go anywhere anyway, and given the usual behaviour when I do have to go to Tesco, I don't imagine any of them will be following the guidelines needed to make the app work anyway.

I think you missed the part where there isn’t going to be an app. So stomping your feet and refusing to download it won’t work

Track & Trace as it's being launched today isn't based solely on the app, in fact there was no mention of the app. When someone tests positive a tracer will get details from them of all the people they've been in contact with for longer than 15 minutes. They'll then contact those people and advise them that they've been exposed and need to isolate.
