AIBU to remind people NO LIFEGUARDS

I''m in Devon, and here and in Cornwall (and I'm sure most beaches round the country) there have been no lifeguards on duty since lockdown started.

Some generous people have kept an eye on the water as far as they can, so there have been rescues. Those rescued have been lucky.

2 people drowned in Cornwall, this weekend; so if you must go to the beach, please make sure you choose one of those manned by lifeguards.

Some people think that the RNLI should just send its guards back to their normal beaches, which is fair enough.

However, until that happens, we each have responsibility to make our own choices to go to the beach and get in the water, risking getting into difficulties. The sea is a powerful element, and is unpredictable and temperamental! Sometimes what seems fine simply isn't.

Please choose not to get in the water unless you're at a lifeguarded beach.

I can't see how a lifeguard could work at the moment. Was thinking about this when they pointed this out on the news.
You can't wear PPE in te water.

YANBU. Our beach is clearly marked as having no lifeguards. If you make the decision to go in (or let your children go in), you make it knowing that.

some rescues have been made that's all very well but even a strong swimmer trying to rescue someone could get into serious trouble.
some people are just selfish and carry on regardless,then expect others to clear up their mess.

YANBU at all. One thing I haven't seen much this year since the lockdown is the coastguard and air ambulance fly over, now more people are going to the beach I am starting to see them again.

There've been rescues which have been successful too. There shouldn't have been any rescues at all; there shouldn't have been a need for it.

As always there are foolish people are reckless and put the lives of others at risk. Jet skis are lethal in the wrong hands and people are injured by their own (especially those not using a kill cord) or worse, by ohers (Kirsty McColl). It makes my blood boil.
