To not pay the fine because I was following my parental instincts?

I have to pay a fine (correctly issued). I am planning to write a letter to the council tonight to explain why I was merely following my parental instincts and why they should contact my MP instead who can explain why it’s important to forgive people like me who mean no harm. AIBU? grin

Hilarious

YANBU. It's not one rule for them and a different rule for the rest of us. It'll probably make whoever gets to read it laugh.

Write that lettergrin

I actually mean to write it. Feeling unsure because I don’t want my local council to lose the money they make this way. I did deserve the fine, no argument about that. However, I would much rather spend it on my children. Naturally. smile

I read today that thousands of people will now be able to challenge fines issued to them, because of DC. Assuming yours was for breaching lockdown (was it?) I would do it. Not that I think you were right - more that you were almost certainly less in the wrong than he is.

Oh gosh definitely write it! grin

And then let us know if you get a response!

What was the fine for?
If it is a parking fine, then you need to pay.

Mine was absolutely not anything as serious as the lockdown. Not even a parking fine. Something very small and insignificant, especially during the lockdown.

I cannot imagine breaking the lockdown. I am not Cummings.

Gosh you're witty.

Sounds like you have a chance according to Matt Hancock this afternoon.

Sparklfairy Tue 26-May-20 19:58:27

I honestly think most fines will be unenforceable now. Write that letter OP, you might get lucky!

This.
I can use the money (my children can). We are locked and I have been working full time while trying to educate them. This money can buy enough crafts materials for few more weeks. Or we can use it to buy a new bookcase for their room (badly needed, drowning in rogue books!). Or simply new books/apps.

You absolutely should.

Wow such funny

My efforts to advance their education while holding a demanding job are not going well at all and I feel guilty all the time. They have loved doing crafts though and I need to replenish the supplies of the material that we collected over the last few years (all got used up pretty quickly over the lockdown weeks) and that we were not able to use much before this pandemic came upon us.

Well, I am not trying to do anything dangerous at all. Nor breaking any rules. Following my instincts only.

Just tell them you were out testing your eyes. It’ll be fine then.

Morred Tue 26-May-20 20:13:38

If you need new supplies and can't afford them, surely any loving parent would follow their instincts and shoplift some?

That is a great suggestion. Thank you!

I really want to know what the fine was for! Illegal parking? Unpaid dog license?

Inoneminute Tue 26-May-20 20:17:33

I think that would be an excellent form of peaceful protest. I've never actually received a fine for anything maybe now's the time.

The first 50 or so threads pretending to be Dominic Cummings were funny. So Yawn now, yet another one to hide. Boring
