AIBU?

To think you can't drive 600 miles in a heavy 4 x 4 on one tank of fuel?

Apologies for yet another thread, but this is bugging me. Maybe because whenever DH and I have had to do a last-minute long journey we have never had the foresight to have a full tank of fuel just in case.

So Its 270 miles from London to Durham and a further 30 to Barnard's castle. (and I guess a few extra to the hospital). A journey of at least 600 miles then,

YABU = of course, it's perfectly possible to do it on one tank of fuel and duh it's also completely reasonable to drive 60 miles on your wife's birthday to test your eyesight.

YANBU = self-explanatory.

Didn't he say he's 95% certain he stopped to refuel for the journey home?

I’ve done oxford to Newcastle and back and I had to stick more fuel in about an hour from home.

Depends on what speeds you’re travelling at though.

If I’d have sat at 65 on the motorway I would have got a much better mpg.

Barnard Castle is in the south of Co Durham and south of the City of Durham, but in principle I agree with you.

As pp says depends on what speeds you are doing and how laden the car was. I drive regularly from Kent to the top of North Yorks going up the M11, across the A14 then up the A1 (obviously I don't know which he went) and it's mostly flat to about Doncaster so I suppose it's just about possible - you'd get back to London on fumes. I believe that both he and his wife were 7+ days since onset of symptoms the day they returned to London so he wouldn't have been infectious if he did have to stop for fuel on the way back.

As for the car already having fuel I filled my car up the day the children finished school, just in case. No reason why he couldn't.

Having said all that "the driving to Barnard Castle to test his eyesight" is the biggest load of shit I've heard all year.
