Facebook - 10 days of being a Mum/ dog owner whatever

I know I’m turning into a grumpy old woman but these are doing my head in irrationally. What’s it even about “10 days of being a Mum?” It’s just posting 10 photos of your offspring and nominating some other person to do the same. My FB is full of them.

What’s the point? Have I missed something??

No I don't get it either but then I post very little anyway so maybe it's lost on me 🤷‍♀️.
I got nominated yesterday to do the 10 day 'my child is an athlete' challenge.

I don’t see the point of them either, but it’s a bit of harmless fun so what’s the issue?

I was tagged in the 'mum' one the other day, bit pointless really as I don't post photos of my family on FB - or anything else really.

Yeah it's fucking tedious, I am unfollowing all these people for 30 days.

I hate it. I have at least two people on my Facebook that haven't been able to conceive and one who hasn't seen her dd for years.
Yes post photos of your life, your dc etc but all the 'motherhood challenge, tag 10 amazing mummies etc' seems so cringey.

isthismylifenow · 26/05/2020 11:20

I seem to be quite popular for being nominated for this sort of thing.

I have ignored 10 days of posting pics of my dc. They are 21 and 18 years old. Can you imagine the backlash had I dared to post of picture of them Grin

The shooter challenge with the raw egg.

The latest one is 10 days of music albums.

Sigh

@SierraHotel ah I'd love to be nominated for that! I could post a photo of ds exercising his thumbs on the PS4 and dd twiddling her hair on the sun lounger Grin

So bored with them, I find the wording quite aggressive as well 😂

Day 1

I was nominated by xxxx Every day I will select a picture from a day in the life of being a “Mum" and post it without a single explanation and nominate somebody to take the challenge.

10 days, 10 photos, 10 nominations, 0 explanations.

Today I nominate xxxx

Agree!! I’ve been off Facebook since lockdown started and logged on yesterday to see if there was anything I was missing. Apparently all I was missing was 10 photos of music albums, children, dogs, mugs of coffee? Confused from pretty much half the entire world. Grin

No-one tags me in these kinds of challenges. Rather than feeling hurt, I treat it as a compliment!

Spacepocket · 26/05/2020 11:37

The mum of an athlete/mum of a musician ones are the worst.
I wonder if 10 photos of me screeching at DD about cancelling her fucking singing lessons if she doesn’t actually practice would be acceprable?

I can't wait to be nominated, there won't be one offspring photo. I've got all the grim stuff ready, c section scar, stretch marks, PND, sleepless nights, dirty nappies the lot. I've not seen one photo yet that has portrayed what being a mum is like. It's not all bells and roses. Not one of a frazzled mum at 8 am trying to feed the tribe, get ready for work, peg the washing out etc etc.

I automatically mute anyone that participates in any of those challenges.

I have been Facebook free for a month and I’m loving it !
Don’t know why I had an account in the first place as I can’t stand attention seekers and it’s always been full of them

It's the no explanation thing I don't get. I just think a bit of context is interesting, especially when it's an album you loved for example. I don't mind the concept of ten things, although I'm not wild about the tagging.

and this is why I came off social media, I couldnt stand it. My son spend 50% of his time at his dads, the gf is ALWAYS taking (staged) photos of him and the kids, its resulted in my son hating photos because of the constant stream of posing for pictures. When hes with me, i hardly take photos of him now because of his absolute hate for it. Its a shame as he's my only son but his happiness is more important..

If it wasnt for social media and the like she would have nowhere to post them and I could guarantee that she wouldn't take 90% of the photos.

Its a sad world we live in (to add, just because you take 100,000 photos of your child to upload to SM doesn't make you a good parent? So I dont understand what all these "upload a photo" things are about?)

I've been nominated for the album one and the mum one.

Ignored both.

It's the 'I've been nominated' bit that irritates me. As if it's somehow a privilege and a responsibility rather than a massive exercise in attention seeking.

I ignore all 'nominations'. The ten albums is the absolute worst. I have no words to describe how little I care about what your favourite albums are. At least kids are sometimes cute and interesting.

I won't be nominated because I don't have any children.

But if this thing comes back round again in the future when I (hopefully) have had a child and anyone is misguided enough to nominate me, I'll be tempted to post pictures detailing all the painful stuff I went through with multiple miscarriages and all the fertility treatment I had to have a child.

Oh I forgot the 10 albums ones I’ve been tagged in that too.

I honestly can’t be bothered.

If you don’t post it on FB did it even happen? I’ve had my SIL post 16 odd (yes 16) photos of her 7am morning run this morning, photos of fields WTF is that about?

I think I need to come off FB before I explode

You’re lucky then @ilikepurple ; it’s a race to the fucking bottom on my fb feed with people falling over themselves to show the “real” side of motherhood. Extremely tedious.

I am usually very “live and let live” on fb things as I get it’s another way of connecting with others and can generate conversation, but I could really do without the twee “Aren’t I so HONEST and RAW and REAL” posts...

Ugh yeah I hate these! I’ve seen so many variations as well, like 10 photos of your favourite films with no explanations. The most nauseating one I’ve seen in is ‘10 days to show my life is good’.

And yeah I don’t get the no explanation thing. It’s a photo of your child sitting in the garden, why would I need an explanation 😂

The 10 albums one is very annoying. The way it says 'no reviews, no explanations'. I would actually be more interested if there was an interesting explanation otherwise it's just a pic of an album cover?

I don't see the point in the raw egg, alcohol shot, and sugar one. It's supposed to show support for all the Key workers. How is that "challenge" showing support. It's like the ice bucket challenge. Daft.

I wouldn’t mind the album ones except the first one I saw someone had put up Robbie fucking Williams!!! Hmm that person doesn’t deserve access to good music!
