To think there's going to be an increase in obesity post Covid?

Nearly everyone I know has put on weight, even my dm who never puts on weight. Its the boredom coupled with the gyms being closed, increase in alcohol consumption and I guess stress induced eating?
I work in secure services and we always notice the weight gain (partly due to medication) but also due to the lack of physical exercise, lack of access to healthy choices, days spent sat around watching tv. Isn't that what we're all living like now?
Sorry for any grammatical errors, walking to work and typing!

I'm sure a lot of people have put on weight. I've lost weight though as has my partner.

You're not wrong. I've regained the stone I lost last year and my usually thin husband has developed a paunch.

In my case its definitely stress /comfort/misery eating.

I’m on my feet most of the day and have been trying to do some daily exercise, which has been easier to do as my partner is here all day so I can go for a run etc. I think I’ve lost a bit of weight.

Maybe. But I've used having more time to get organised with better eating habits, and will definitely be coming out of lockdown lighter than when I went in. I'll still be obese, but less so. I'm definitely not alone in this. And there's no just popping to the shops for chocolate if you feel like it, which probably helps.

On balance though, you may well be right.

I'm overweight but have stayed the same weight. I dont go to the gym but I do walk a bit. Not much though. Have done slightly more walking during lockdown

No I don’t think so. I think there has been a realisation that obesity really is a medical risk factor as shown by the covid deaths of people who are “otherwise healthy“ but obese- which in itself is a misnomer. Obese isn’t healthy- ever. So I think many people making excuses for their weight will
Work on attaining a healthy BMI. Myself included.
I think many people have taken up exercising more and when we can be more active this will pay off. I don’t think weight gain over lockdown will be long term and I’m confident people will lose it again.

I don’t know. From what I’ve heard of friends/family a lot of men will have lost weight. I know of several with young children who spend a chunk of every day running/cycling and now playing golf Hmm

I have taken the opportunity to lose weight as have several other people I know. Started 3 weeks ago and have lost just over 2kg. 8kg to go!

Yabu, many people seem to be exercising more .
I think it’s 50/50

Yes everyone I know - me included- has gained weight through inactivity.
I only did 5000 steps yesterday, despite a long walk which suggests I was sat down for most of the day besides that walk. Most days have been the same.

A lot of people who have put weight on will lose it once they get out and about off their arses.

I'm definitely struggling to not gain loads of weight. Exercising 6 days a week is just about keeping a big weight gain at bay, though I have gained a couple of pounds.

It feels like food and alcohol are the only things I have left to enjoy, I tried to diet a few weeks ago but it felt like the only joy had been zapped from my life so I gave up Grin I find it incredibly hard to restrict what I eat without distractions.

I’ve lost weight, although not intentionally. I’ve been exercising more and almost finished couch to 5k. I feel physically great.

I've stayed the same but I'm really being careful with what I eat. My day to day activity levels have plummeted. I'm doing home workouts from my gym but yes the school run, running for the train, general movement.

@Isadora2007 I came on to say the same thing. As an overweight person I'm extremely worried about the severity of covid and the additional risks to me because of my weight so I'm losing in lockdown.

We've all lost weight. We've eaten really well with no crap and only an occasional takeaway

I've lost weight because I've got more time to meal plan and cook healthy dinners. Also, if it's not on the asda order we arent having it - no popping to the coop for beers or chocolate on a whim

I've lost weight but only because I'm breastfeeding (god knows it's not because of reducing my calorie intake 🙈). I'm worried about my health from being so sedentary though. I don't normally do any exercise per se, but we go for walks and just generally move. Now I go days at a time without leaving the house, and when we do go out it's just a stroll down our pretty short street - difficult to go any further with the toddler, because out of our street is a steep road with intermittent pavements, and we're not allowed to drive for exercise.

I've lost weight because many other pressures/responsibilities have been taken off me and mean that I can devote my attention to a strict diet/exercise program

I'm desperately trying to lose weight but it's been a real slog. I think if I ate normally I would probably gain. I want to turn to the snacks and alcohol but really don't want to put weight on

Report
Allnamesaregone · 26/05/2020 08:48

I’ve gained. Eating more snacks combined with inactivity. At the start I was keen to exercise every day but now can’t be bothered. I’m fed up and just want to be back to normal.

I think the weight gainers are probably the group of people who gain at Christmas and spend spring losing. So if life get back to some normality will start to lose.

I've lost weight trying to survive on only 80% of our wages and increased food prices.

I think that most people with a chronic long term obesity problem were obese before lockdown.
