AIBU?

To think mobile phone companies TOTALLY take the piss???

Last month I made a HUGE effort NOT to buy any additional add on data to my monthly phone package. Normally I buy A LOT each month as I don't have any home broadband. However, in these straitened lockdown times I've been more restrained in my data usage and last month was the first month for eons I didn't buy any add on data. However, compared to what I thought the standard tarriff was - 02 seemed to have sneaked on an extra cheeky few pounds to the bill compared to previous months - no doubt they've clocked this complete turn around in danger use!! Thieving fuckers!!! Angry

What makes you think they're "thieving" as opposed to applying charges you agreed to when you took out the contract for services you have used?

Report

Sounds like you need to work out how much data you need and adjust your contract. It must be costing you a fortune to keep buying add ons

Phone contracts often rise with inflation each year. It depends on your contract.

This. It's usually much cheaper to have proper contract than buying add ons.

They don't just add few quid on bills because you are spending less...

o2 contracts increase every April, I had an email in Feb about it. I think it's called the retail price index and your tariff increases in line with this. It increased in April by 2.7% so my bill has also gone up by a little.

I just checked. Price adjusting happens in April with o2.

I think you need a new tariff. I pay £20.5 a month for unlimited calls, texts, data and tethering. Very useful if you don't have home broadband. Add ons a very expensive.

This is what happens when people don't read their contracts or at least the highlights of it...

Do you know what your standard tariff should be?

StirlingWork · 26/05/2020 08:32

Lockheart - because I've calculated what the 'basic' amount months would be with no bolt ons. Even though there have been no bolt ons the amount has 'magically' increased by £8!!

OntheWaves40 - I'm going to adjust my contract but my days ARE OVER of buying bolt ons. My new disciplined habits are now with me for good!!

Why an earth dont you have broadband?

hula008 - ok fair enough didn't take that into consideration but seems a bit coincidental that the rise has happened the exact month I go 'NO EXTRA DATA' iyswim

Puppydogg1 - ah ok to be fair I didn't take this into account- if that's the case then I stand corrected. I'm looking to get a much cheaper tariff anyway with just the basic level of monthly data

How much is your contract normally? Are any added costs showing on your bill?

Report
StirlingWork · 26/05/2020 08:38

Yes ScarletFever - £32

emz771 - to be honest I got rid of it to save money. I had it up until about October 2018. I do miss it very much Sad

Are you paying 32 and still have to buy data add ons😱 Wow. Is that a top of the range phone or something?

Report
StirlingWork · 26/05/2020 08:40

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow - No - I do have a monthly data allowance WITHIN my tariff - but I've often run out of that in 2 days and have to buy loads of bolt ons. But that has STOPPED for good now due to these more straitened times!!

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow - it is an iphone7 plus - top of the range when I got it in 2017 but now has no doubt been overtaken by numerous later models
