To take pebbles from the beach?

Is it allowed? I'd like to put some borders around my flowers beds so need about 20 - 30 medium sized ones. I wouldn't take them all in one go, probably a handful at a time while dog walking.

Just wanted to check I'm not breaking the law/endangering the planet/taking the piss.

It’s illegal and also causes coastal erosion. Don’t do it. You wouldn’t steal flowers from a park.

20-30 no one will notice. Iirc the beach I grew up with is 'man made' i.e. was sandy but pebbles were put in to stop erosion. As kids we used to take home cool looking pebbles all the time.

Oh my god. The “what if everyone did this?” argument is just so fucking Lame. Everyone doesn’t want to do it and isn’t likely to- so it’s not an issue.
Some people might TAKE stones from their garden TO the park, some people couldn’t give a flying toss about stones so wouldn’t ever want any.
@DarylDixonsHair for the sake of a few stones just go for it 5/6 at a time and I can assure you no one will care.

It's against the law and coastal erosion is a very serious problem in some parts of the country. Expensive houses on the coast where I live are unsaleable because of erosion, some have lost parts of their garden to the sea.

It's theft ? Ridiculous. And taking seashells is theft? It wouldn't even cross my mind to think this. So basically humans cannot pick up or use anything from nature, only buy items from shops?

I don't think I've ever been to the beach and not picked up a pebble or a shell to take home (or put the kids ones in my pocket).

It’s against the law, and has been since the 1940s. The fine is up to £1,000.

When I was a kid, we had 2 plastic bags completely full of shells and stones in the boot of the car from years of travelling to the beach

There is an almighty difference between taking one or two pebbles and filling up the car boot.
It used to be a huge problem in Chesil and as I recall did cause damage.

It’s illegal. Please don’t. It is cumulative, everybody takes a few but it does cause coastal erosion and gradually destroy beaches. Same for sand.
