I've just started week 3. Really enjoying it so far and feeling quite inspired!

I was wondering if anyone has just started too or had any tips?

There's a couple of threads ongoing at the moment I think, lots of people getting stuck in over lockdown. Main tips from me are just trust the programme, it works... You might have to repeat the odd session but you'll progress if you do it. If it feels too hard, slow down. When I did it with a running coach, he had us starting at a speed barely above walking. Once your body gets used to working for 30ish mins, then you can work on speed 👍🏻

Apart from that, decent shoes and sports bra, and enjoy!

I ordered myself some shoes but they were too small so waiting for the next pair to arrive, so annoying!!

I think I am running too fast at the mo to make in beyond about 5 minutes (about 5.5 mins per KM). Is it ok to go a bit faster for the shorter runs or is it better to stick at a steady pace?

Thats pretty pacey, if you are just starting out I would probably look at running around the 7 min/km. But the beauty of running is you find what works for you. I am training for a marathon. I run/ walk at a split of 1 min run 30 sec walk. Right from the start. I can cover more ground faster than if I tried to run it all

Yeah I completed it recently! That’s a good pace you’ve got but might make it harder to pace yourself for the longer sessions. Try to slow down a little to build a steady pace, you can always speed up towards the end of the longer runs if you want.
There’s a group called Running Woman on Facebook, really encouraging and runners of all abilities. Keep it up :)

Thank you I will try and keep it up!!

Another question, I'm just running in my regular classic nikes at the mo but have ordered a pair of proper running trainers. I'm just thinking I run with my dog so do a mixture of road / field running. Will road shoes be sufficient?

Yes, road shoes should be fine for field through most of summer as the ground should be reasonably dry. I do a lot of trail running and am mostly using road shoes for mixed routes currently. Once the weather gets wetter and ground muddy you might want to think about some hybrids, but see how you go first, it all depends whether you are slipping or not. Pure trail shoes are much grippier in mud/wet grass and are ok for a bit of tarmac but less cushioned so not comfy for long tarmac runs (and wears lugs down).
Get your running shoes 1/2 to 1 size up from your normal.
Enjoy your running - it's great! Smile

Thank you! I ordered a 5.5 in Asics which are normally fine but they were tiny! I've ordered a 6.. hope they fit!
