AIBU?

AIBU to want a new housemate during lockdown?

My situation is I live in a resonably large house with a couple who own the house. I rent a room but have use of most of the house and garden.

There is another bedroom in the house which is currently ready for a new housemate to move in. The owner has advertised this room for rent but I understood they would not have anyone move in until after lockdown was lifted. Well, that has now changed as they have found someone they like. This person has not come to the house to view but has done a virtual tour by video on Wattsapp.

I have been informed tonight that this person is moving in on Thursday next week. I am very upset about this as we have all been social distancing and following government guidelines. In the beginning I was furloughed for 3 weeks but I am now working from home. I am also diabetic on insulin and am in the vulnerable category. The house owners are in the over age 60 bracket with asthma and are terrified about getting covid-19. I do not understand why they can not wait a few more weeks to have someone move in and fill there empty room, with whom I have to share a bathroom with.

Surely it's best to wait and follow government guidelines for everyone's health.

I have expressed my unhappiness in this situation and that I am not comfortable with an unknown person moving in even if this person has said they have been social distancing etc since lockdown.

So, what should I do? I can't move out but how do I stop them from moving someone in? AIBU in not wanting a new housemate just yet.

Thanks for reading.

How did they respond? Presumably, as they are also terrified about getting covid, they are happy this person has either been at least socially distancing if not socially isolating. Not a lot you can do really except stay in your room as much as possible and practice hygiene measures by washing hands after touching door handles and wiping all surfaces/taps/cupboards & handles down before preparing food and wiping everything bathroom wise prior to touching handles & constantly washing your hands.
It could be that, once you’ve lived with them for a couple of weeks, you feel reassured that they are doing everything possible as per gov guidelines but I understand why you woukd be concerned.
