Does anybody else find ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ annoying...

when it is used as punctuation or in place of "Thank you"?

For context, a friend send me a text to ask me a favour, we exchange a few replies and I gradually agree. She finishes off with ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ and does not mention please or thank you in any of her replies.

I don't know what the second emoji is

nitgel Sat 23-May-20 13:15:42

i had the praying pic, the second looks like an oven grill grin

don't ๐Ÿผ me man

thatcarolebaskinbitch Sat 23-May-20 13:18:22

Ugh yes my DM does this all the time!! I will send her a picture of a cake I've made or something and I just get ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป in return, it really annoys me.

nitgel Sat 23-May-20 13:18:32

hate not had

Spillinteas Sat 23-May-20 13:18:32

Depends what the favour was.

Sparklingbrook Sat 23-May-20 13:18:38

I don't know what the second emoji is either. On nitgels post there is a teeny tiny blank square box between the words 'dont' and 'me'.

But I am on my laptop.

I cannot stand it, I read it as โ€œI canโ€™t really be bothered talking to you, I have better things to doโ€ or as a passive aggressive โ€œI will acknowledge this but I donโ€™t really like youโ€.
I have asked friends who say Iโ€™m overthinking it shock

Spillinteas Sat 23-May-20 13:20:12

For example -

โ€˜Can you grab a pint of milk do I can brew up when you get here?โ€™

Could merit a ๐Ÿ‘ if you agree.

โ€˜Can you give me a kidney?โ€™

Would probably merit a bit more gratitude grin

NotKeenOnSwede Sat 23-May-20 13:22:16

I hate it, it's a kick in the teeth

JoesExotic Sat 23-May-20 13:22:19

I agree, it's a conversation stopper.

allthedamnvampires Sat 23-May-20 13:23:09

It's rude

Nicolastuffedone Sat 23-May-20 13:24:39

I use the ๐Ÿ‘ sometimes Iโ€™m busy, if I type a response, I get another text....on and on. I use it to acknowledge Iโ€™ve read it, but I donโ€™t have time to enter into back and forth texting

Somanysocks Sat 23-May-20 13:25:20

But what does a blank pink square actually mean?

Kljnmw3459 Sat 23-May-20 13:25:32

Yes it's definitely a conversation stopper. My beloved dsis and dm do it and I take it as a sign that they're not interested in receiving any further messages for now.

nitgel Sat 23-May-20 13:25:35

so what is the second one?

xsquared Sat 23-May-20 13:28:28

Why so @Spillinteas? She is able to write long sentences and specific instructions about what she's like me to do for her and why she can't/ won't do it herself but can't manage a thank you?

DieSchottin93 Sat 23-May-20 13:29:07

I think the second one is just the skin tone of the emoji that OP has chosen? Could be wrong though.

xsquared Sat 23-May-20 13:29:51

Those asking what emoji it is, it's the thumbs up.

Potatobug Sat 23-May-20 13:30:21

It means thumbs up. It means thatโ€™s fine, okay. It is not rude at all. It is not the middle finger. It is literally a thumb up.

xsquared Sat 23-May-20 13:30:51

Is this ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ not showing as thumbs up then?

xsquared Sat 23-May-20 13:32:03

I know what it means potato, which is why I don't like it instead of "Thank you".

Carrie7469 Sat 23-May-20 13:32:09

It's showing as a thumbs up and a pink square

MulticolourMophead Sat 23-May-20 13:32:58

I don't know what that pink square is, either. In fact, I've just scrolled through the emojis on my phone and I can't even find it.
