Hairy armpits - liberating or gross?

As I'm unable to go swimming at the moment I haven't bothered/been able to keep up with many of my usual beauty/maintenance routines.

For the first time in my life I now sport long underarm hair and am quite fascinated by it! It's very unfashionable in England, but I like it. What are your experiences..?

I'm tempted to keep it and wondering wha

Gross. It gets sticky and sweaty and I hate the feel of it.

I can’t stand seeing it on men either.

Gross but don't go on my opinion alone! Each to their own and if you confidently sport it then keep it! I work in catering, I can get really hot and sweaty in the summer and the thought of having under arm hair with that as well is 🤢

I don't like the sweaty feeling and it gets more smelly. Don't like it on men either.

Neither, for me. It's just hair.

I'm a smelly person. I find that keeping the hair short helps with the smell! I haven't shaved my legs in a long time though!

Yeah, my armpits aren't even that hairy (maybe four or five curlies Grin) but when I've been tardy in shaving them, I've definitely caught a wee whiff of sweat at times, even when I've worn deodorant. So I think it makes that area a little smellier.

If it was just about how it looked, it wouldn't bother me and I probably wouldn't shave.

I don't shave mine any more since I started getting awful sore patches that made me feel like I had to hold my arms out at 90°.

Personal preference, and no one else's business.

I don’t shave my armpits, or any of my body hair for that matter. I’m not fussed either way.
I don’t feel any extra sweaty, don’t get stinky and don’t really care what other people think about it.

For me it's no 'liberating' it just is what it is. I shave very sporadically, like every few months at best.

Same...it’s just hair

I don’t tend to shave unless I know I’m going to show my pits off.

My dh loves the hair too so that helps Grin

Only thing is, you do need to wash them and deodorise them everyday as they do smell quickly

Neither liberating nor gross.

I find a good 48 hour deodorant (Mitchum usually) keeps me dry and not smelly. I wash my armpits daily, of course.

Just natural. What's the big deal?

Absolutely gross. Couldn’t not shave my arms.
My legs need done at the minute but I’m always on top of my pits.

It’s just hair. If people think it’s gross it’s only because they’ve been culturally conditioned to do so.

Neither. It's just hair. Have it however is most comfortable for you.

Wash daily, use Mitcham but need to shave, would hate to smell. I have worked with people who say they do not need to shave/use deodorant as they do not smell - I wonder if they just get used to the smell.

I don't like having hairy armpits, I shave mine every two days or so.

Also - why does body hair grow sooooo much faster than head hair?
Answer me that.

I very rarely shave my pits, having hair there is natural and it doesn't bother me. Shaving it causes me itching and irritation and I don't want to put up with that just to conform to what other people think looks nice. I don't smell.

I shave mine, I don't care what anyone else does with theirs.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 23/05/2020 10:21

Neither. Entirely up to you. I have never cared about someone else's armpit hair or lack of it and I never will.

I grew mine out a couple of years ago to see how long it could get. DH tried to braid it. It didn't go well. But neither of us were grossed out by it, why would we be, it's body hair. I do prefer being without it but that's probably just because it's what I'm used to.

I haven't gone as far as a few weeks growth but do have large gaps between underarm shaving. There is is extra ick when sweating so it gets shaved off when I feel that. Not bothered by long underarm hair on men or women, equally womans hairy legs don't bother me either.

I haven't shaved my legs since december and have been sporting dresses and such. Mixture of winter/celibacy, then lockdown happened.

What a weird question. Like.. "fingers - exciting or damaging!?". No... Just part of our bodies.

Report
MashedSpud · 23/05/2020 10:22

It’s not for me but if someone has it I’m not grossed out by it.
