To think Dunelm Mill are MASSIVE CF’s?

I won’t go into my own issues with my recent orders from dunelm but personally I suspect they’re using lockdown as an excuse to send out faulty/damaged larger items (can’t be returned in store) whilst their customer service is uncontactable.

However, today I found this.
These are THE SAME mirror. One for sale on The Range and one at Dunelm Mill for £150 more! I used to love DM but was getting a bit fed up of their plummeting quality - this takes the biscuit and it’s not the only item they’ve done this on.

I read in our local paper yesterday that our DM was re-opening this week. I don't like them, always found them expensive for stuff that you can buy cheaper elsewhere. They're not as good as they think they are!

Out of stock in the range. Maybe dunelm bought them all.

I agree with you regarding the quality of their goods being poor and some of their prices seem steep.

We won’t ever buy pillows or duvets from there again as the filling clumps really quickly.

Once went to by light fittings for a couple of rooms , only to find that the bulbs that they required were non standard and they didn’t stock them.

I usually only go there as a last resort now.

I had an email from Dunelm this morning saying all stores now open.

I'm glad, I like Dunelm.

They're like Wilko. I love Wilko.

I'd hate to see either close down.

YABU

any magazine is full of articles showing same or near-identical items at completely different prices. They are not selling any essentials like baby formula, it's a free country, why do you think it's being a CF to name your price?
You don't want it, don't buy it. If it doesn't sell, they'll lower the price.

I bought a cantilevered 3m garden parasol from Dunelm in the week, arrived this morning - it's fab and it only cost £59. Can't quibble with that, or the 2 sunloungers I got for £49 for the pair

the range item will be a poor mans copy of the original

Report

Theu arent the same mirroe though.

The dunelm mirror is bigger for a start

You will find lots of items on the internet that are similar, or dupes of an item. Doesnt mean they are the same.

If you think 199 is too much for a mirror dont buy the fucking mirror

I love Dunelm could wander round there for ages. Agree with pp the Range copy will be inferior quality. I saw the Range copy of my clock I bought from Dunelm and there was a huge difference in quality between the two.

@Dahlia

I don’t think so. I had another item they’d copied from the range delivered this morning and literally fell apart in my hands (after arriving visibly damaged). I have loved Dunelm for years and spent thousands with them but their quality is just hitting the floor atm. It’s so hit and miss, some items still fab others total garbage!

But it's not the same OP.

Dunelm Mirror:
H 150cm x W 81cm (59" x 32")

The Range mirror
H 112cm x W61cm

The Dunelm one is made of stronger metal and designed for the garden. Strange you didn't post the other Dunelm mirror which is the same as the one in The Range though. Thats the same size as The Range and designed for indoor use. I'm guessing that double the price was CF'ery enough for you though?

Are they the same size and quality? Can't tell from pictures.

Can't see the image, but the comparable mirror is this one:

I have never managed to actually buy anything online from Dunelm. Well I buy it, then they tell me it is out of stock and refund me. Every single time.

The only way to get anything is to go into a store and listen to their ear splitting TV promo things, can't avoid them. I don't think they want customers really.

KindlyFOD · 22/05/2020 13:55

I can't comment on the quality but I think you are being slightly unreasonable about the price. I'm buying new handles for my kitchen cabinets. I found the ones I wanted on Amazon for 7.99 each. A Google and I found them elsewhere for 4.09 each. If I bought them at 7.99 would that be Amazon's fault, or mine for not looking for a better price?

@AdobeWanKenobi

I had all 3 screen shotted and got confused. I honestly thought the more expensive was the same but you’re right it was the £99
Twice the price is still highly CF’ery in my opinion.

Like I said, I had an item I’ve now realised they ripped off from The Range delivered this morning and it’s only fit for firewood. Absolute appalling quality.

I used to be a massive fan of Dunelm, until I had a chest of drawers delivered three times - all were faulty. Despite going through senior level, they still could not be bothered to check the final one they sent. Had to take so many days off work etc to receive and send off the deliveries. No compensation offered either.

Report
CountryCasual · 22/05/2020 14:03

It just infuriates me that they’d deliver a faulty not fit for purpose item (which they knew was terrible quality as ripped off from The Range) to a loyal customer who has used them for years and then when I rang the store come back with a ‘well you can try arranging an online return but don’t hold your breath they’re too busy at the minute’.

  • No customer service lines open - despite almost every other large company managing this (customer service calls can be taken from home easily with a little investment in basic equipment).

Everything I've bought from Dunelm has been fine. No complaints about quality or delivery.
I don't understand complaining about price. If you want the cheapest option, then you look round till you find it and then you buy it. If you value something else over price, then you buy the more expensive one. It's a bit like complaining a Rolex is £20,000 when you can get a cheap copy for £50.

VenusTiger · 22/05/2020 14:04

It's more likely that The Range are making cheaper versions of Next, Laura Ashley and Dunelm, not vice versa OP

@TheLash

But this isn’t that at all. This is going into the Rolex shop, trusting their brand and quality, then being sold a £50 fake for a £20k price tag.

If I wanted The Range level of quality I would go there and pay their prices

They are a bedding company aren't they? Of course this stuff is expensive there, like any other type of place like this.
Their garden section is twice as much as you'd pay in a garden centre, which is more than you'd pay at B&Q, then cheaper are the local nurseries.

Report
CountryCasual · 22/05/2020 14:07

I think we can probably all agree that if you go to a shop that’s got a reputation for decent quality and certainly isn’t the cheapest on the market, you don’t expect their products to fall apart minutes after arrival.
