My main strategy for getting through lockdown is pretending it's the latter part of 2008 as this was a time that was very difficult and bleak for me but the following years my life improved beyond all recognition. I download music from 2008, even read all the mumsnet Chat threads from 2008!! I know I'm a random sentimental old fool but it's helping to give me hope at this difficult time!
So, in a world where we are all 12 years younger, hope you all have a great day!!

Oh in that case, I turn 18 next week! Yay for me!

Bluebellpainting Fri 22-May-20 09:12:55

@teacher12345 Same. Oh to be that you care free again. My life looks very different now though. Happy 18th next week. grin

Treaclepie19 Fri 22-May-20 09:13:57

If it's October 2008 I'm 18 and having a blast so that sounds good to me!

Even with quarantine and wfh with 2 primary aged children, now is better for me than the latter part of 2008. I was returning to work after ml (4 weeks pregnant unbeknownst to me at the time) and had taken a promotion in a new Department with a 160 mile commute each day. I had 3 teens, a baby and a pregnancy and the week after I started there was an embargo on transfers so I was stuck with that commute for 41/2 years. It was the toughest period of my life trying to keep everything going and my anxiety was through the roof. Now I commute 5 steps to my spare bedroom, have recently been promoted and even though i haven't been able to see the older kids since lockdown they are doing well and I get to have the younger ones here with me all day for the first time since ml. I do like your strategy though for coping and am grateful that I don't feel the need to escape my current circumstances. Tbh I don't really want to go back to normal and hope I will be able to continue to wfh a few days a week for the foreseeable. Enjoy the 80's while you can though.

I'm out clubbing tonight then. Anyone else coming? Got my fake ID for one last time wink

Livingthecovidaloca Fri 22-May-20 09:25:30

Endless Absolute Radio 90s here, and then get confused with how decades work, thinking everything’s only ten years old!

Minesacider Fri 22-May-20 09:25:57

Ah, it's my 22nd birthday again, what a time!

MinkowskisButterfly Fri 22-May-20 09:26:12

Well if it is October 1st 2008, I'm a couple of weeks off starting a new job where I meet my husband grin

LakieLady Fri 22-May-20 09:28:43

Christ, I'm still living under the same roof as my abusive ex.

ILikeyourHairyHands Fri 22-May-20 09:28:53

I'm not coming clubbing as I have an 18 month-old and a two month old, I'm 35 and very happy.

SallyLovesCheese Fri 22-May-20 09:29:58

Well, my grandfather has just died then, so that's not so happy. On the plus side, I'm in Year 12 so at a peak time of having fun and enjoying life before the depression I suffered throughout my university and 20s life.

DownADirtRoad Fri 22-May-20 09:32:29

I’m back in my twenties....just. Woohoo 🥳

Pissflapflip Fri 22-May-20 09:32:37

Oh I'm really stupid loved up with my now ex husband. We're dating. I'm paying £250 a month for a gorgeous house and loving my job. Far too much wine consumed and money spent but things are giddy and good. For now anyway wink

nevergoingoutagain Fri 22-May-20 09:35:13

It's my 31st birthday and I'm heavily pregnant with my second child. We are in family court over contact with my step daughter. I have ante natal depression.

Things haven't been great recently but I think I'll give 2008 a miss!

I'd just be happy to go back 5 months.

FloggingMoll Fri 22-May-20 09:35:47

Oh, fantastic thread (for me anyway). I'm working in a city and enjoying it, I'm at least three clothes sizes smaller, and as it's October it's my favourite time of year. Next year I'll retrain, and that'll set me on the path to acquiring an important academic qualification, meeting my DP and having my DD. Whew!

bridgetreilly Fri 22-May-20 09:36:21

Noooo!!!!! Autumn 2008 was absolutely the worst time for me. Just about to enter a really dark and serious few years of depression. Crying most of every day. Living in the far north of Scotland so there's hardly any hours of daylight. I know things are grim now, but personally I'm much better off than I was back then.

Camomila Fri 22-May-20 09:36:41

2008 sounds lovely, I would just be getting together with DH (met at uni) and all my essays would be between 1500-2000 words and done in one evening rather than the 14,000 word MSc dissertation I have to do in lockdown with 2 small DC and a broken laptop.

Settle59 Fri 22-May-20 09:39:41

Teacher12345 - hope you have a lovely 18th - enjoy your first legal drink!! grin

Settle59 Fri 22-May-20 09:41:27

Bluebellpainting - seems like we have a few people entering adulthood next week! Have a fab celebration and the most important thing to remember is - photos online or it didn't happen!!

HalloHalloHallo Fri 22-May-20 09:41:32

I'm in my twenties again. Young carefree and traveling the world. Little did I know then what lies ahead.

Chocolateandamaretto Fri 22-May-20 09:41:55

I started university in October 2008 - some of the best few months of my life! Certainly would rather be there right now!

Redyoyo Fri 22-May-20 09:42:39

Ahh I'm just 2 weeks back from our honeymoon in the Maldives, I'm the pita that all my colleagues are avoiding because I'm boring them to tears with my stories of seaplanes and diving....

1066vegan Fri 22-May-20 09:43:14

I'm having a great time. Dd's only 6. She wants to play with me all the time and is very cuddly. She has only the vaguest idea what a mobile phone is. We're looking forward to going to Krakow in a couple of weeks.

Settle59 Fri 22-May-20 09:43:54

Treaclepie19 - oh to be carefree and 18 again and in my case having crushes on completely unsuitable men!
