To ask about Neti Pot?

Probably a stupid question.
Is it safe to used tap water that's been boiled in the kettle and left to cool with a sachet of the salt to do a nasal rinse?
I used this method yesterday and now I have a pounding headache and have stupidly read about brain eating amoebas

Kettle would have been fine. It’s only a problem if you pour water straight from the tap into the Neti and don’t boil at all.

Imagine headache is more likely due to dehydration in this weather, or stress?

I wake up with headaches in the morning because of jaw clenching in the night.

@lilyboleyn yes probably a mixture of both I should think! I used to do the jaw clenching thing so I sympathise

I blew my nose really hard after using. Ot didnt say on my instructions to too so I think I've done something to my ear. It was making a funny noise when I was blowing it afterwards. Was a strange experience!

Neti pot has really helped me with allergies. I always cover one side of my nose and blow afterwards and then switch sides because it can do funny things if you blow with both sides at the same time?

I have been using the squeeze bottle version of neti pot on advice of consultant after two lots of sinus surgery. He said it is fine to use tap water in the uk, add a sachet of salts, I have never had any issues with it.

I've only ever used tap water (uk) never had any issues.

It has to be boiled water to be safe (not 5 times though ,that’s overkill) , do not use water straight from the tap or you’re asking for trouble .
I never usually have to blow my nose after as it always make me sneeze but sounds like that’s why your ear is playing up , you don’t need to blow very hard

@Fern204 complete opposite to what my 2 specialists have said in every occasion .
Slightly warm water is better for the sinuses anyway and you wouldn’t risk using the hot tap for that

Thanks all. Glad I boiled it and that it's fine in the kettle. Google is my worst enemy!
How do you all clean the neti pot so it is sterile? (I dont have the actual neti pot, I have the waterpulse from amazon)
I'm thinking to do another one with gentle nose blowing afterwards and hopefully it will sort my ear out.

I didnt drink much water yesterday and I suffer with migraines anyway so there are many reasons I could have a headache. All much more likely than a brain eating infection .. there is a rational brain in there somewhere.

Mine lets you sterilise in the microwave but maybe try boiling water or sterilising tablets?

I’ve just poured water from kettle that I boiled last night into mine, I think as long as it isn’t straight from the tap it’s fine
