AIBU?

To contact store about delivery driver

My very nice delivery driver licked his finger to open every carrier bag when delivering my groceries yesterday. I was so flabbergasted and uncomfortable I did not say a word. He was unthinking, obviously, not malicious. I would like to contact the store anonymously to ask them to remind delivery workers not to do that. Or should I just forget it as lots of unseen spittle is probably all over my groceries anyway? AIBU to express concern to the store?

I think that you should have mentioned it at the time. If he did it repeatedly you had plenty of opportunity to gather your thoughts to point it out.

Please don't. It was a mistake, they have so many rules to follow, and it's just something you do without thinking

Why was he opening carrier bags? Surely the stuff is already in the bags when loaded into the van?

Why was opening carrier bags?

As for your post, you should have said something there and then. I'll never understand this MN obsession with being so flabbergasted you can't speak.

Honestly? As a pp said, you should have mentioned it at the time.

I think it was unwitting ignorance and I would probably have been unsure how to phrase it at the time, but he does need to know that it is so very unsafe now. Please do let the store know.

Yeah contact the store. And the Police while you’re at it.

Not for the first time this week on MN I have to say I don’t understand.
Why was he opening the bags at your house? Isn’t it already in bags?
It’s great that you are able to get deliveries TBF.

I have same question. The food is already in the bags when they deliver so do not think this could even have happened given the current laws of physics regarding mass and space...

OP is never coming back to tell us why the delivery driver arrived at her house to open bags

Thanks for the helpful replies.

For those of you who are always composed and who would have said something right away, good for you. Your replies are not helpful. Feel free to roll your eyes and scroll away with your snark and rudeness.

The groceries usually come in trays and the delivery is usually brought into the kitchen by the driver and me, but because of no-contact, he was putting things into bags directly from the storage in the truck as I unpacked the trays in the entrance of my house.

That sounds like a strange set up. Usually it comes bagged from the store. Maybe he was running late or something.
As long as you emptied the bags and washed your hands it will be ok. I do agree though that the time to say something has passed.

I would contact the store but report it as an anonymous customer. Just email from another email adress and explain what you saw but don't mention any details as you don't want to cause any trouble, but you would very much appreciate it if they can tell their employees to be mindful of this behavior.

It is common sense to say something at the time nothing to do with being composed.
