AIBU?

To be annoyed by next doors builders

The noise is constant, drills, radios and talking builders. I know they’ve got to work, but they seem to be there all hours of the day and weekends. The other day they were there until 8.30pm, it’s so annoying.

The house is going under a big remodel as well, extension, new doors, windows.

I know there probably isn’t a lot I can do, but still, it’s really annoying.

Normally councils have times before and after which builders cannot work. It is written into planning permission but applies whether or not planning permission is needed.

In my area it's between 8 am and 6pm weekdays 9 and 2 Saturdays and not at all on Sundays or Bank Holidays.

I know that some areas have temporarily suspended these regulations though so it is worth checking with your council.

Builders often aren't happy about sticking to them though.

I’ll have a look.

I’m at the point where I’m entertaining myself by composing passive aggressive notes for them in my head, you know hand crafted with glitter glue, sparkly sequins embossed across with something like ‘dude we get it, you have a drill,’ with a whole tub of glitter that explodes when you open it.

I’d top it off with a packet of sub par shortbread.

The sooner they craic on the sooner they are gone. Look at it that way, they should be done by 'real' summer. Lots of folk including neighbours stuck with a half finished job for the foreseeable as supplies are not available so builders aren't coming back .....

My friend's neighbours have been at it for almost 2 1/2 years, and still not moved back in!

we complained when the next door builders had two competing radio stations on in the garden at the same time!!!
they work from 8 til 7 - been 8 months now - we are fed up with the endless banging & drilling but that took the biscuit!!!!
You have my sympathy!

You have mine too - we have the same going on here. 12 hours a day 7 days a week at times. It's been off and on for almost 3 years now and there are many times it's reduced me to tears.

Council won't act and as we are all so restricted on where we can go I have no escape.

My neighbour had his garden overhauled a few weeks ago. Luckily it was done in five days but in true builder form they were a nightmare

My driveway was constantly blocked with vans, they even parked a van ON my drive to which I had a go at them over the fence. They also dumped a huge mound of gravel outside my driveway so if I had have needed to go out, no chance for hours. Didn't even ask. Street still filthy now, hoping for heavy rain soon

I've had to complain about builders twice to my other neighbour, dropped loads of concrete over my fence and another time left all my windows filthy when they pebble dashed their house

I can now see why builders have got such a bad reputation. My dad also lost it with builders at his neighbour's house. They seem to have absolutely no respect for other's property
